Ignore the dents and slap it on. Don't make a big deal out of it.

The sticky glue on the self adhesive tap plates is soluble in naptha, or 3M adhesive remover. if you need to know.

Or get a piece of mylar or hard vinyl that is really thin and use white glue.

Well I would probably do the same thing as Stephen but if you're looking for a good filler I would try Crystalac as it dries clear.

If you ever plan on getting the top refinished then adding a filler of any kind will be a pain.

It can definitely change the sound when going from say a thick poly finish to a thin FP. Not so much going from FP to FP.

Last year I did some finishing work on a Gerundino where someone had used Superglue to fill the areas where some miss guided golpes were performed over many years. To make matters worse the a felt tip had been used to add colour underneath the glue. To get the back to looking respectable I had to steam out the glue which wasn't to bad did remove some wood fibres which other wise may have been able to steam out leaving a flatter surface.

Any way my point is that you would be using glue to 'fill' the dings which in turn may cause problems should you or anyone else that owns that guitar in the future want to refinish the guitar.

I had a guitar I played from 1998 until 2010 and it had a piece of tap plate I added to protect more on the treble side near the waist.

I cut a piece of clear mylar .012" thick, put some thinned white glue on it and pressed it over the spot. I tapped in place and used a rubber eraser to knead the excess glue out from under the mylar.

The white glue does not damage the top an can be removed later with a careful wipe of warm water. It comes right off. It also fills the dents and makes the surface of the guitar look clean.

One caveat, if the finish has been broken through nothing you put on the top will really look the same as the finish and dirt can get in the dents to the bare wood very easily. Which is why I say just place a swatch of self adhesive tap plate over it and get on with playing.

Really at this point I think ( and others) conserving what finish is there is better in the bigger view than trying to hide dents.
