I received an order of pegs from Chuck about two weeks ago. We emailed back and forth a few times and he's actually adding new products to his lineup (mostly fancier wood grips, mastodon inlay, etc.).
My only gripe is that he doesn't have the old "Ramirez" style pegs that were actually a pretty similar diameter to friction pegs. His current 9mm flamenco pegs are a little too thick to just use a standard reamer, but still a great product.

If he has really closed up shop within the last two weeks I would be very surprised.

I made an installation work around for the thick 9mm Pehheds, If any makers are interested. The standard violin reamer is a tiny bit too small in diameter, but with one shop made tool used in conjunction with the reamer you can get that diameter.

I heard conflicting reports about Herrin, but he seems to be in business. I will try to call him on Skype and see if I can talk to him directly and get a report.

The way things are going right now, its more or less looks like a commercial suicide.
The product is good, but its to darn complicated to get hold on. You dont know what you can buy, where to buy and how to buy. The 9mm variaty is to thick etc.
The website is old, never updated, links not working etc. Pegheds June 2015 is a mess.

I´m going to use my last set of Pegheds now. I will maybe buy more if things gets sorted out and the 8mm Ramirez peg (or similar size) is available again.

last time I bought, Chuck first send me to a dealer in France, but in order to pay I had to make a phonecall and give my VISA data on the phone. All banks say dont do that, so I didnt and ended up buying directly from Chuck.
I even mailed Madinter and asked them to carry Pegheds, but they ended up having these horrible Juan Carlos pegs.

Modern world. Full of misinformation and crap.

I've finally had communication from Chuck Herin. It seems he's been away for a while at the Boston early music festival.

So, a simple explanation. But I wish he'd left a note on his website or facebook. Its very difficult dealing with a business that doesn't communicate with its customers

I was wondering why there were a lot of folks dressed up in renaissance style here in Boston the past several days.

Agreed on communication. Given the popularity of his pegs, especially compared to the two we reviewed this past week, I would think he would be selling to places like Stew-Mac, Luthiers-Merc, and other such places.

When I read this post yesterday I immediately sent an email to Chuck Herin. He replied today:

No. That is totally false.

I am working on point of sale packaging and will sell directly to Elderly when that is ready in a few months.

I'm happy to sell to anybody RIGHT NOW!

I also wish Chuck would update his site to include a simple online store, where you could pick out all the options you wanted and place an order right there.
I actually suggested that to him, along with maybe hiring somebody to handle emails as he got a but snippy with me when I was confused about the options. He responded that he had tried to do that before but something went wrong, he's just a small business, etc.
Hopefully he will see the light about the online store, couldn't be easier to set up these days with a service like SquareSpace.

Chuck is kind of a genius in my book, if he's a little unconventional it's ok. His pegs are good and I have NEVER gotten bad product from him.

For many players he made pegs playable.

I've finally had proper communication with Chuck.
His original flamenco pegs are sold out, as Andy has said, but he can supply a banjo peg that is very similar, so I will order a set of these.

Are these the same as the larger guitars pegs that I have been buying from him? Did he mention when he might have a new manufacturing run of the guitars pegs?

I've received some banjo pegs today from Chuck Herin.

They are a little bit shorter (69mm) than the flamenco pegs he used to have, but they remain a quality product and better than anything else I've found

I really hope he gets his things sorted out.
Just something simple like 1 page where you can order or even an Ebay page. i dont care.
This way everything would be so much easyer for everyone.
We, the builders could build guitars with wooden pegs and if a client would want PegHeds, then they could order a set of pegs and ship them directly to their builder. I would change without charging extra.
As it is now and has been for a good while, its unacceptable.
I´ve just used my last set of the 8mm Ramirez hed used to have and I´m not going to stock. For 2 reasons, its money, and the 9mm pegs, I dont like. They are to fat and the end result is a peghead with elephant legs. Gone is the elegance of a nice peghead.
