Can anybody suggest a good thumb/alz...

I have the basic techniques down but trying to build speed and power, particularly for alzapua. Interested in any good exercises or practice regimens.

there's an exercise from Oscar Herrero out somewhere, where you basically play alzapua on one string....it's just a chromatic scale, but it helped me a lot to gain fluidity

That does indeed rock! So metal! \m/
The little melody sounds very similar to the Jaleos on Pedro Sierra's album.

Great isn't it? Yeah I thought it had a metal riff feel to it too. Actually, look at the guy, wouldn't be surprised if he has a pointy headstock seven string plus Marshall stack at home.

Have to say I really like Livio's studies, best 8 quid I spent in ages. Some lovely arpeggio ones in there (couple of nice circle of fifths ones similar to Vicente's Roma and one that reminded me of a Gerardo arp exercise but longer and more developed into a study piece).
