Philip Glass on Fresh Air

Terry Gross did a rather nice little interview with Phillip Glass.

In particular he said a few things about death towards the end of the interview that had a positive note about how art ( or other things) are transmitted.

Well worth the minutes of listening.

Appreciate the post on him. I became an instant Philip Glass fan, when first seeing him on SNL in the 80's. His music so emotionally stirring and it converts to the guitar surprisingly well. I can't praise his music enough, it ends there for me.

Glass is one of those artists that whether or not you like his work what he says about the nature of creating is important. I find his old friend Chuck Close the painter to be the same way. Neither of them is my absolute favorite, but my thinking would be a lot less rich without them. Both are brilliant at communicating what drives the creative process, in as much as you can actually talk about that sort of thing.

Chuck Close we studied in an Art Appreciation course a few years before I heard Philip Glass music. I thought Glass was an interesting subject for Close's work, but had no idea who he was.

It does seem to be, that creative geniuses run in the same vein of influence. The world is much more interesting with the two artist in it. When I get in a music rut, I find listening to Philip Glass inspiring.

To tap into the "underground river" Philip Glass has frequently spoken about as the source of his inspiration over the years, I still find mystifying. It's reminds of things I have on remote sensing. Where the mind can be developed to tap into a creative source.
