Hello from Los Angeles

Hello,
My name is Billy and I'm new to everything Flamenco. I traveled to Madrid, Seville and Granada last summer and I fell in love with this form of music. I look forward to learning about Flamenco music and, perhaps, even playing a bit. I have a long way to go, as I am still learning basic chords and strums. It is my goal to learn to read music in the not-so-distant future. Thank you for including me in your community.

Hola Bill!

I'm in LA too, on the westside. Welcome to the endlessly rewarding AND frustrating world of flamenco guitar . Private message me if you'd like some recommendations on teachers in the area or if you'd just like to know where all the good shows are, there's a decent size group of flamencos out here.

Thank you very much for the offer, Lenny! I'm going to do the dinner show at El Cid with Wifey on Saturday. I am absolutely very interested in any (beginning) instructors on the east side of Los Angeles (Awater/Silverlake/Echo Park) area. Candelas is a bit too far, but I was thinking of trying over there. Other suggestions are greatly appreciated. I think I need to work a little more on the basics (posture/first position notes/some chords) on my own before I waste an instructor's time. Plus, I'm a little short on cash. I think I'm almost ready to take the leap, though.

Thanks very much. I would really appreciate any resources that you may offer. I recently picked up a old, used Flamenco guitar and it's tonal qualities far exceed my playing ability. Now it's time to learn to play the damn thing. It's Spruce/Cypress/Ebony. Gosh, I paid nearly $660.00 with shipping! Hahaha. Now, if only I could learn to to tune it with those damn Ebony pegs!
