Miguel Poveda

The new single sounds great, I don't know where you can find it but I really liked it (Guerra a la guerra por la guerra).

I also found this one and while the sound quality is poor, the song is also amazing. It may all sound like fakemenco at first but what I hear is top notch compositions and arrangements here.

The album will be out in march.

It's not that there's anything new, it's the way it's put togheter and mixed. No crappy trebly reverb sound, very good arrangements...look for that "guerra" song from the album and you'll understand.

Here's a bit of that song Iam talking about. Pay attention to the things I've mentioned, even the bass is used as... a bass

The vocal rhythm throughout the song is very engaging, very cool syncopation going on there.

Just found this... both songs from the album. "Guerra" comes at 4:50.

It is not fakeflamenco, it is canción andalúz. Like all maricones, Miguel has a great love of the copla and since he has a great voice he can sing anything and his recordings of copla are outstanding.

I have just been listening to his first recording "Viento de Este, 1995)", where he demonstrated a total command of flamenco. His voice has matured and his tastes have widened. He earns more for a performance than any other cantaor.

To me, it sounds like Morante insulted him, but them he went on to highly praise him so I'm kinda confused....
I would call Miguel a fresa, maricone seems a bit harsh....

RE: Miguel Poveda (in reply to Sr. Martins

In Spanish 'maricon' has been always pejorative ( or irony). We have not a polite/normal word for it, because gays has been historicaly seen as a bad nature according our social standards. In the lat 30 years this has change noticeably and due we have not a non-peyorative word, we use the English 'gay' as polite/normal word.

So, only as warning, if you use maricon in your translations.. it will sound as pejorative in most of the cases.

Concerning to the real issue: Poveda ... IMHO, I hope he will stay in more in the 'jondo' side. But money ....

If you're interested in a bit more of Iberian culture, maricón in portuguese is "paneleiro" but we also have the word "maricas", which is the light version.

It is like equating Elton John's reasons for making his norma jean song is because all cross dressing queers love marylin monroe...

Meanwhile, I am still waiting for Rob Halfred's "Barbara Streisand" cover album to come out.

Well... I just watched a couple of videos of him off stage and... not that it changes anything but I sensed totally gay vibes from him:

Agreed Thomas, we should concern ourselves more with the vibes we send out.

I really want to hear that Rob meets Barbara album, that sounds like it would be an entertaining listen forsure.

Why would it?

I only care what he does with his wooden instrument.
