Andy Culpepper 2a Blanca

Hey guys,
my name is Mason, and I wanna introduce myself with a review of my new guitar.

Living in north Texas, there's really nowhere to try out nice guitars, just the crap at Guitar Center. That makes it difficult to choose luthiers online when you can only go by word of mouth or video clips. I picked Andy because in his videos, the guitars had the type of tone I was looking for: articulate and punchy with basses that still had a deep and vocal character.

When I got it in, I was blown away!
The videos really don't do the guitar justice compared to the "in the room" sound. I can feel the whole guitar pulse when I play in a way that none of my previous guitars have. I still can't believe how responsive it is. The rasgueados sound explosive even when my finger are just falling across the strings! I think it really suits well to dynamic playing. Legato and left hand stuff is a breeze even without the capo. The action measured about 2.5mm on the 12th fret. I'm trying to think of anything I don't like about it, but I'm stumped... They could easily be more expensive than what he is asking for.

Andy was a chill guy, and answered all my questions timely. I could definitely see myself getting another guitar from him in the future.

Anyway, here's a crappy cellphone picture:

Congratulations on your new Blanca, Mason. It is a wonderful feeling, isn't it? Pulling the guitar out of the box, the proverbially intoxicating scent of cypress and the hallow sound of strings over the pristine spruce.

I miss that and reading your review is contagious, like a yawn, which I may impulsively need to emulate really soon !!

You certainly picked well. Andy is indeed a fine gentleman; his work reflects his scrupulous work ethics and devout passion to flamenco music and guitars.

His videos showcase the instruments really well. But, now, can we expect you to post something as well to give substance to your review?

cheers,

Of course. I just think that handmade guitars like this one have something that can't really be captured by a camera.

I'll make a youtube account as soon I get a decent camera

I just love the malaprop here, because I think both of the homonyms are appropriate.

Interestingly, if you Google malaprop:

mal·a·prop
ˈmaləˌpräp/
noun

The mistaken use of a word in place of a similar-sounding one, often with unintentionally amusing effect, as in, for example, “dance a flamingo ” (instead of flamenco ).

Yes gj, that is the one!

I think Andy's playing is getting better with every video he puts up.
