I just got my sample set in the mail today. Haven't put them on yet. I will post soon when I do.

I need new strings BAAAD and have two shows this weekend…..If they're not there tonight I'll just have to put my normal set on…...

Andy,
I just put a set on old #4 about 3 weeks ago and I really like them. They replaced a set of Luthier carbon trebs which to me, had a nice tone however were a bit to thin for my liking. The D'Addario carbon trebs are thicker and have a nice brilliant tone without being to harsh. The basses are wearing like iron, but seem to have a nicer feel and projection compared to the std ProArte's. I think string preference really comes down to the individual's perception and to some extent a specific instrument. Some guitars seem to respond to different brands of strings. My #4 doesn't seem to respond to well to the std ProArte's but likes Labella reds/blacks and the Luthier 20's basses...

I couldn't wait any longer so I bought new strings and put 'em on last night………
My carbon strings came today!!!!!!!!!!
I'm not gonna switch till these wear out so it's gonna be a while before I can share my 2 cents…….

OK, I put my medium tension set on my guitar today.
I think they sound fine. The basses are good and have a nice presence. The trebles are a tad lackluster though. Rasgueados don't sound quite as explosive as I would like.
Overall they sound OK, but I'm not going to be using them on my guitars because...

THE MAIN PROBLEM I have with these strings is that the diameters are vastly different from normal strings. This causes huge problems with the nut slots!
The basses are within 2 thousandths of an inch of most strings, which is fine, different brands vary by that much all the time.
But the 1st, 2nd and 3rd strings are all smaller than EJ45s by 4.5, 5, and 7 (!) thousandths respectively.

On my guitar the trebles all had an annoying buzz in open position that you get when the nut slots are too large. And if I slotted a nut to be used with these strings, normal strings would sit up too high in the slots causing excessive string height at the first fret, one of my biggest pet peeves.

So as far as I can tell, if you are ever planning on switching between between these trebles and nylon trebles, you can't use the same nut. Bummer!

Andy,
I don't have any issues with buzzing with these strings on my instrument open or capo'd. I agree with you that the treb's are thinner than normal nylon ones but thicker than the Luthier carbon trebs I had on prior. Those luthier treb's didn't buzz either but I didn't really like the feel, way to thin for me...

Hmm, OK... maybe I made a crappy nut on my first guitar. lol
Still the trebles being that much thinner seems like it would cause problems on a lot guitars.

Need some help here:

The usual D'Addario Extra Hard Tension pulls a total of 41kg.

The new carbons EJ46FF (hard tension) come at 46,5kg.

I haven't tried them yet, Iam waiting to see if I'll receive a normal set and I'll give this one to a friend.

Isn't 46,5kg WAAY too much for a flamenco guitar? On this guitar I usually put something around 38kg... maybe the 46,5kg figure was a typo

And the carbon EJ45FF Normal tension is 43kg!! That's more than the non-carbon EXTRA hard...

If it's a typo, it's wrong on the package as well as on the D'Addario site - it's likely to be the correct number.

Who is using EJ46FF or something similar (46,5kg total)?

It might be useful since all this winter humidity brings the action really low but I don't want a bent guitar :p

The high E string pulls almost as much as my current G & B strings...

Some people over here have tried these strings... could you please comment on this?

Yeah.. that potentially could be a problem for some guitars and players.
It's a bit like when nylon strings came in and all the old guitars designed for gut were underbuilt.
If carbon becomes the wave of the future then guitar makers will have to adjust slightly to it.
Personally I just put nylon strings back on my guitar and breathed a sigh of relief. They just sound right to me. No excessive sustain or harsh overtones.

Wouldn't Dadario be in a world of pain if they were responsible for warping tons of hand made guitars??
They have to have thought about this......

Using Arto's string calculator you can see that any halfways decent sounding fluorocarbon treble string (especially e-string) will be high tension.

Example: e-1 at 650 scale length at 0.62 diameter (0.6 is the thinnest that sounds halfways not like steel string) pulls at more than 10 kg!

I put these strings on today. They feel thicker than the previous set of D'Addario EJ45's, and I like that extra "fat feeling" under my fingers. I've played these strings for the past two days now, and I have to say that I like them. They've settled in nicely and they stay in tune well. The intonation has been pretty good also. And yes, they do feel higher in tension, but I am enjoying that feeling. Hopefully I won't wake up tomorrow and find my guitar snapped in two. Preliminary review is a thumbs-up from my standpoint. Years ago I tried a number of different sets of medium tension strings on a classical I had just bought. It played in tune with most of the nylons.

It went sharp as you went up the fingerboard with all the fluorocarbons I tried. For the same amount of stretching when you fretted the string, the fluorocarbons went sharper. It probably could have been fixed with a compensated saddle with more setback, but the fluorocarbons were too bright for me, so I didn't try it.

With the lower action on a flamenco it might not be so noticeable.

The dynacore basses are awesome but I am not digging the trebles.

They feel harder than traditional nylon and the tension is very unbalanced. The high E string is too tense compared to B and G, those actually feel kinda loose... but hard anyways.

Not digging the sound either, too trebly and round/bell like.. it feels as if they are an acryllic plastic compared to nylon, if that makes sense.

Only tried those trebles on one guitar that is already trebly by itself so maybe these strings will help some guitars... but the feel of these strings... hmm, nah!!

I quite like them, I use these for my amplified guitar right now, but I think I prefer Savarez Corums. I got in to carbon trebles last year. I had to put on some regular nylons on last month because the carbons where sold out, they just felt like rubber bands... and really thick!!
Just love the sound of carbon trebles on the guitars im using right now. This may change with different guitars...
My experience is that different guitars need different strings..

These strings last a long time, and that in two respects. They continue to sound good long after you've put them on. And they don't begin to come apart at the points of greatest use (in contrast to other strings, which begin to unwind in ways which leave sharp edges on the strings). I've never had a set of strings last as long as my current set of Pro Arte carbons.
