The World cup rant page

Since the world cup is upon us and many of us are watching , yes it has nothing much to do with flamenco , and yet here in this place we are from all of these countries united under the flag of flamenco ..

However as the games progress i thought i could open a thread to let a few people blast off as their own countries do well , average or totally fail .

and so here we can congratulate and commiserate , and have a jibe or 2 but all in a good natured way.,
Remember the flamenco police are watching
I myself will be watching Portugal and England (1 fail already, why do we pay them so much?) but the country i live in now , Ireland , did not even make it in ....
Footballers should have large sums of money deducted from thier accounts for not winning ....I bet that would sudddenly change the game......

RE: The World cup rant page (in reply to El Kiko

Friday night in my litlle Andalucian village was the the quitest friday summer night that I can remember.
I´m lucky, my country, Denmark, didn´t make it, so I dont have to run around being nervous these days. And I dont care if Spain doesn´t make it to the next round. I´m tired of Spanish football. Its everywhere. Sport is football here in Spain and its always Real Madrid and Barcelona 50 - 75% of the time in the sport news. Its sooo boring.

I urge you all to support Bosnia!! We are going in without fear, and football is actually the best way of uniting the country. It is the best thing to happen since 1992. Not only that but our aim is to score more goals than our opponent. Nice aggressive style.

I also love watching England last night, will be supporting them as I live there.

well your first match is the mighty Argentina .... good luck with that one , I think they may win the whole thing ......
However I do tend to support the underdogs , i like it when the little guys win ... like Costa Rica beating Uruguay ....awesome .....

Yeah we don't have a chance against the Argentinians, its just an honour to play against them at this stage. Uruguay were one of my favourites, congratz to Costa Rica!

It's a tough fight for second place, I just hope the referee will do his job unlike the opening game...

Don´t worry. The Brazil game was obviously comprado. So the final will be Brazil vs somebody. Football is corrupt at every level.

Here's what I've learned from the world cup so far...

Do you think the FIFA bought the Jap referees?
Back in 2002, it was obvious that South Corea reached the semifinal coz of outragous decisions made by referees out of their mind. This is usually explained by commentators as a "little help" toward the organization country. In past editions, others nations also beneficied from this kind of joker

I don't think Brazil needs such a help. It's a great team, even if they didn't impress me at all in their first game.
But IMO there is another level to be considered for the FIFA to "help" Brazil. It's due to social climate. There were some strikes going on before the competition start. The fiesta could have been spoiled if the stikers did not end their stuff.
So magically, 1 day before the beginning, the strikers accepted to stop their obstruction.
Prob is that if Brazil have lost their first game or if the team do not reach at least the quarter or semifinal, then the anger could revive social tension and strikers could, another time and more easily, contribute to big traffic jams and others things. At least that's what I've heard from commentators in mainstream media.
Eventually this would upset Sepp Blatter Corleone and he'd ask his family to made some irrefutable offer to the Unionist

I don't think FIFA bought the referees. I think the referee can feel the pressure in the stadium and the fact that its the home nation can really make his job difficult.

I actually think it would help Brazil if they lost, get some more strikes and change happening. I doubt the people will see much of the money made from the world cup. I really am in disbelief that Brazil will host world cup and the olympics within 2 years.

Well, not all of 'the people will see much of the money' which is the point if you believe that the strikes are entirely about world cup (that takes place in the middle of a Brazilian election cycle).

I would like to watch some futbol and forget about politics for a few minutes.

The Netherlands humiliation of Spain was almost total, but so far in this round I am most impressed with Italy, we will see how Argentina looks tonight. Still. . .Brazil!

If one believe that the game was bought, then some money might have been spent for this purpose. Or some kind of pressure like menace or blackmail. If the referees weren't been corrupt, then it should be some Croatia players.
Or maybe it was via some technological tool, like a guided ball

Speaking of technologie, the new Goal-line tech was experimented this night with Benzema' shoot. Nice to see that one implemented. It will be helpfull for the referee...First time that a goal was validated with a connected watch...

About the strikes, sooner or later they will emerge again. For what I understand, people are upset about all the money spent for the World cup while Public Service like Education are in bad shape. And the price for transport raised also.
But that's another topic and I think we are not allowed to talk about such stuff anymore

So let's drink some beers and enjoy the Goaaaaallll and samba!!!

So would I, but its difficult to keep up the spirit when the first game is totally ruined by a ref, that I´m 100% sure have received something.
I didn´t see the rest of the game. I did something else.
Tonight, Germany. I love German football when its up and running and when its not being ruined by some Spanish coach with a ball possession sindrome.
I hope for a Germany vs Argentina final and may the best win.

yes , i think Germany may make it to the final as well .....and a German / Argentine final looks likely from here ...
My guess for the semi final would be these 4 teams ....Germany , Holland , Brazil and Argentina...
After that ..i'm not sure.....but hey,, its football so you never know what happens ...one of them smaller teams might just get lucky or have a good run ..and one of the bigger teams might give a penalty away and change it all ......

Injustice, cheating, mistake, frustration are part of the game. That's why it's so popular imo. Humans are full of sins, and so is the most popular sport on Earth. Amplify the dark side is what all that Big money system brings in.
If the ref always takes the right decision like in tennis, then supporter could no more insulting him and his mother anymore. I can't imagine a football game where the ref is not insulting by supporter...that's part of the game too!!

A bbc podcast about this ref game

well FIFA are standing by the ref and saying everything is OK ..
A few extracts from their reports .......

""""FIFA made it very clear on Friday that it felt the beleaguered referee didn't make a mistake.

Nishimura's controversial decisions certainly don't help the reputation of the organisation, with fans now questioning whether FIFA wouldn't allow the host nation to lose the opening fixture of a World Cup.

The claims that Nishimura was ordered to make sure Brazil would win this match do appear to be a little too far-fetched, however, and while his decision to award Fred a penalty was controversial, if not plain wrong, Croatia had plenty of chances to equalise in the final 10 minutes of the match before Oscar scored the host's third goal."""""

So who knows .. we only know that any ref only has seconds to make a decision and often does not have the best view of events ...

RE: The World cup rant page (in reply to Estevan

but did he follow the rules on diving ....I mean is he a professional or not ???

So I found you some official rules on getting a good dive awarded on a how to site .......also known as simulation, and the act of faking a foul or injury in soccer. Its supporters call it strategy, its detractors call it cheap (and the players that practice it worse), but a soccer player is well served in knowing how to draw the referee's ire to the opposition.

1....Be sure to rid yourself of your dignity. You won't be needing it for this maneuver.

2....Ensure that you are near a player on the other team. Diving with nobody around will, at best, make you look like an imbecile.

3....Time your dive. While one could dive with no contact, it is very difficult to make it look realistic. Diving is better used to emphasize a real challenge, making a legal tackle look illegal, then it is to make no challenge look like a foul.

4....Go to ground. You want to throw yourself at the ground, in whatever manner you choose. However, ensure that it is consistent with the type of foul you are simulating. If you are faking a trip from behind, sprawl out forward. For a shoulder-to-shoulder challenge, fall sideways. To show a shirt-tug from behind, fall on your bottom.

5....Fake an injury. This is where you get to emulate the professionals... holding your leg and rolling around in pain. Again, be sure the faked injury is consistent with the foul and the fall. For a slide tackle from behind, hold your leg, to fake an elbow to the face, grab your nose.

6.....When the referee takes whatever actions he deems necessary, get up, limp for a few minutes (if you faked a leg injury) and get back into the game.

So you see its not just the dive but the ''quality'' of it ..you gotta practice , practice , practice to get the timing just right ,.. its not for everyone ....

I've been watching 2 games a day.

Portugal was by far the worst team and this was the most boring game.

Big USA surprise ...first goal in 31 seconds......i hardly had time to open the fridge ....just got up to go to the door and ...bang .... goal ...damn what happened ....good tactic is that ...

However the fastest World cup goal ever so far is 11 seconds !! a Turkish guy against Korea 2002....
And I just looked some goals up and I think it would put him in 5th place beating an existing 35 second goal from, France ...

I didnt think Ghana were very organised at all and USA should have won by more ....they will have to really get their **** together to play Germany and Portugal .....even if (my Own) Portugal are playing crappy ...
Actually Portugal Vs USA should be a good match as whoever wins that one is likely to be going through in second place ... assuming that Germany dont loose ....but then again its football .... so ....

And Portugal dont want to get knocked out by USA , so there will be some lightheated , background fouling now and then when the Ref isnt looking ......
