He talks about valuating and is not able to string up the treble strings properly ...

Btw. his checkered pair of trousers from the social benefit collection looks great
I couldn´t hold back to set him something below his video, with a small woody mistake ...

I pray to the hari gods that the good Prof never stop!
This stuff is gold!
The amount hilarity that ensues after one of his videos is posted, is awesome! The sheer quality of this huckster and his disciples is awesome!

I think this issue of bringing down any person's character is repugnant and has no lasting benefit for the person giving it or this list in receiving it.

Ruben plays well and this is what any thinking member should be talking about.

The fact that he goes off on a tangent trying to explain his business selling guitars is not an issue with me, as I have the perfect right to reject any guitar that can't get past the traditional style that I like, or a particular sound that I require.

of course not.

As long as he shows a Conde like that older vid, or Vicente Carillo (like here) or other more "famous" spanish brands who are not here in the foro in his BS vids ...... it all good.... Professor plays very good blaaa blaaaa.

But I wanne see one of you guys reactions and what you have to say once he shows one Adalid/Tom, Estebanana or whatever american guitar instead of that Carillo and repeats the same BS .... and please don't tell me it would be the same "cool" reaction.

Not any more. He ran afoul of la migra a couple of years ago and moved to Málaga, where he has reestablished his school of 'contemporary flamenco guitar'.
I'll leave it to you, if morbid curiosity impels, to find the website and the video from local TV of his presentation of Entre Dos Aguas accompanied by several students playing Michoacandelusian guitars, with his wife on cajón.

Well, I suppose if the Russians can say they invented good house keeping then anything is possible :-)

But why bother to hypothesize....

You know what they say, there's no such thing as bad press.

If he continually shows guitars of others and then holds his up as better that will work for awhile, but eventually dealers will not work with him at all. And he'll get the 'The Nasty Gram' from one of the bigger guitar making houses that can hire a lawyer to a write letter.

If he knocked one of mine in public he'd get a letter from a dealer telling him to cease and desist or face legal procedures.

Other than that, I say live and let live. He plays ok, not my cup of tea, but he plays better than me. And I'm not worried about his guitars. Stylistically they are not in keeping with a flamenco guitar. They are a hodge-podge of elements drawn from different time periods and I prefer to let customers work that out for themselves. I think Diaz is marketing to mainly to an uninformed audience in regards to guitar aesthetics and style. I'm serving a clientele that already has developed the ability to distinguish between a 19th century Panormo headstock and a Santos head stock.

Whatever, if I were in Malaga I'd probably even look the guy up. Just out of curiosity and to see him play in person.

I know you have good intentions Tom. No hypothesizing needed, but an analogy. What if he told you you had no business building guitars and that you are clueless. That is basically how he treated certain members on this list for simply disagreeing with something he was teaching. Things spiraled down from there.

I understand what you mean, Ricardo, and I'm not saying harm wasn't done...but it takes two to tango, and a soft answer turns away wrath, as my mother taught me.

And if Ruben did what you say, then I would kindly ask him where he got his information, and if he didn't give an answer, then I would ask him to help me understand better what he was trying to say about his side of it. In other words he would have to prove it, and I would agree or disagree.

Yes true, but we are all still here and he is gone. He lost the privilege of being in the community. And I agree that he was very rude. But look at it this way, if you know someone is crazy and they do nuzto things, do you really want to attract their attention?

After which he would inform you that he was the one and only via Paco de lucia himself, his info comes from him directly, you have no business doing or speaking in public about this, you should give up your career as it's an insult to flamenco, and next comes the threats from his lawyer against you and the rest of this list. That's how it went down Tom, no joke. So some light hearted humor poking fun is not "repugnant" in context. True, ignoring the fact the guy exists is ideal.

I have neither a reputation as a player to defend nor do I build flamenco guitars, so maybe I'm not so strongly involved. But watching the RD YT videos makes it so plainly obvious what kind of wind is blowing there that I wonder why on earth should one involve in criticizing or fighting them (RD and followers).

The world is full of strange ideas and we can't fight them down because they thrive on fighting. Think of all the religious sects claming to posses the absolute truth ...

Why not leave them alone. Let him build his guitars and see how many customers he can find, and let him teach what he has to teach and see how many people take him as a teacher, actually.

I think, more humor is helpful here...

ok my personal last post on this subject. It was years ago. We have in fact been trying to ignore it on this list, despite the internet presence and bombardment of youtube "recommendations". Most of us would love to believe that this little internet "drama" has nothing to do with our real world lives...yet the initial post of this thread expresses the concern with the hoped for death of that drama has actually managed to trickle out from internet fantasy land into REAL world situations and mentality. More than a disturbing thought anymore. Ok done with it here.

i have to say , no matter how much people criticize him..he is very well accomplished and has made himself famous, which is something no one here has been able to do.

he has produced some very good students, one friend who is an inspiration to me... and the other everyone knows is antonio rey.

lets face it, technically he can play better than most of you combined !

his attitude and interaction with others is something else... but as a guitarist he is really really good !

as for business and marketing, he would make his guitars sound like they are the best in the world. ofcourse, any commercial you see on tv tries to sound the same and show you competitor product and how good they are in comparison. whats the problem with that? he didnt force anyone to buy the product , he didnt scam anyone..he didnt do anything illegal !

also for your info, i have heard the term female and male guitars from people who have no idea of flamenco and never knew/saw ruben ! but they are musicians . so dont blame ruben for the male/female crap, doesnt mean HE IS the source of all this

He's a huckster and a shill. He puts down other accomplished people. He puts down other builders. Asshat said what would a guitar builder know about what a great guitar should be and sound like. Really? So Brune, Ruck, Blackshear, Faulk, Culpepper, Ramirez, Conde, etc.... don't know ****e about a guitar and how they should sound? He didn't start the male/female stuff, fine. But as a PROFESSOR why continue falsehoods and myths? Why not educate the masses as a good PROFESSOR should, minus the ****?
Better yet, PDL is the beginning and end for this wacko. What about all the others that came before PDL that he denigrates? GTFO with your crap.
And where did he get his Ph'd from so that he can be called Professor?
Give it a rest.
Go suck on his sack somewhere else.

No, you're parroting people who have said the same thing more than 100 times.
Nothing more. And this consensus is about to "destroy" the foro more than some Ruben Diaz vids.

Calling a spade a spade is not going to "destroy" the Foro. Neither will RD's vids. What is more than a little sad and disgusting are those few (very few) Foro members who act as shills for this character after he has acted with repugnance and fouled the nest so badly. Like a bad penny, he will not go away and keeps returning because someone always insists on bringing him up for one reason or another. (For example, the silly suggestion that he "plays better than most [Foro members] combined!" A vacuous statement based on no evidence whatsoever.

I mean, apparently he uses this method of teaching by counting out loud. I never see anyone else doing such a thing.
So I assume, he encourage his students to count while learning his stuff. Not sounds a good method at all to me ... (but what do I know!)

So according to this thread title, I'd said Ruben Diaz needs to stop...counting! muahjejeje

I just don't like the consensus, didn't say I like Ruben.
I think rebellious people (like Kudo) are important and refreshing for the foro.
