Kora music on guitar

Although it's boldly unconventional to put it in the Off Topic section, here's some beautiful guitar playing which is not flamenco.

Derek Gripper (great name for a guitarist ) has done a superb job of adapting West African kora music to solo guitar:

After the first piece here, he gives some explanation of how the music works:

Interestingly, for all this music he uses the rondeña tuning.

Very nice relaxing almost hypnotising music, sounds almost like some kind of new age. Great player!

Derek Gripper reminds me of Dirk Diggler

Thanx! great post

I really enjoyed his playing, there's a lot of heart and soul in his playing.

His albums can be obtained for near enough free on his bandcamp. I will get them in due course!

George Benson talks about a link between African and Scottish/Irish music and you think 'What ?' , and then you listen.......

Here's a video of him playing a blanca, which sounds amazing in his hands.

West African stuff has a good groove. As does the North, South and East African stuff.

Ever heard the Rift Valley Blues or the Tangier Rag ? haha
