RE: Paco's masterpiece (in reply to Ricardo

I remember a live radio program with Niño de Puro. A chulo from the audience claimed that classic guitarists do not need capo because they know music, while the flamencos need a crutch.

Daniel replied: the capo is for the cante and gives a specific tone. But we can also play without if we wish. He told the chulo to name a palo and a fret, which he did. Daniel then played perfectly without capo and the chulo had to shut up.

RE: Paco's masterpiece (in reply to Morante

Conversely…I “know music”, or rather, I knew how to read music and understood the capo-less fingerboard almost a decade before I got involved with flamenco. I actually did use the capo for some pop songs on occasion (I think it was the silly Nelson video that clued me in to the possibilities, which came after 5 years of shredding on electric). So growing up with nice classical guitars, transposing with capo was no problem as I tip toed into flamenco world. But then I got my hands on some acoustic electric guitars (one of which I use as my main axe today). The damn dots screw with my head so bad it is not even funny. I am in 3 por medio down low I still see D minor scales, but any falseta up higher I am literally seeing F minor every where with those dots.

I have gotten used to it somewhat in my old age, but as recent as last Sunday out door festival…I had to perform this falseta that I had created for a show last year, that was capo 1, but using my conde it was no problem. So jumping on stage with my Cordoba the cantaor said “hoy? 2 por medio!”, as he was feeling strong. No problem, all the singing…and then came the falseta. I looked at that fingerboard like it was the first time I had ever played a guitar!!! Totally lost, jodido.

That is why I never put any dot on my guitar too, because of the overwhelming confusion I get with a capo. But I risk very much making mistakes in classical and chamber music all the time.

Here was the “Segovia incident”, based on my balanced review back on page 1 of this thread:

It’s a good thread but there’s way too many posts moved to the Recycle Bin. Heck, if I removed every stupid post I made there’d only be about 35 left. Even devilhand would have me beat at 47.

That was the OP by Romerito aka Kevin/Beni2, who deleted all posts in prep for his dissertation. He has since apologized and rejoined as Romerito

Well not in this thread - all but 3 deleted posts were estebanana's, and the 3 are by two other users (but not Kevin).

A previous owner had a 7th fret dot installed on my guitar. Even one dot can mess me up when moving the capo around. I black it out with a permanent marker. Every year or two it wears off and I black it out again.

That is what I get for only reading Mark Indigo’s posts. However, many of the deleted posts by estebanana are in quote boxes. Not sure what his beef was there.

I remember the time I wrote this long diatribe and at the end said please don’t quote this as I’ll probably want to change it or remove it and bang, right away Pali or HR (can’t remember who) immediately quoted the whole damned thing! Then, you came along and double quoted them, just to rub it in, lol. My problem is I can get too OCD about my posts and keep going back and correcting them for clarity and better English. It’s stupid to do that because they invariably end up reading all stilted and looking like they were wrote by ChatGI or whatever it’s called. If somebody quotes me I’m screwed, but at least it stops all the pointless editing.

It’s great how technology (speaking in general these days) has allowed us this tiny window of opportunity, to capture and exploit people at their worst.

Ha ha haa,

Rob, I’m sure it was me, but don’t quote me ;)
