Vicente Amigo in Murcia, two weeks ago

About Paco De Lucia.... Vicente says "yo siempre le lo mantenía en mi mente y ahora mucho más"; isn't it true, that PDL is now indeed more recurrently on our minds?

And here is a captivating rendition of Vicente's creative Fandangos, Mensaje.

One of the best performances of Mensaje I've seen.

Nice. He always plays well honestly. Here is some rehearsal in the hotel room (nice thing about flamenco right?) ... feeling pretty close to vicente now as myself and fellow alumni of Gerardo's cursos since 11 years now should feel proud of the two gentlemen joining his group. (Raphael and Paquito).

Thank you for posting that insightful clip, Ricardo. Comparing the sound at the concert vs. the hotel room rehearsal, one can't help but notice the remarkable difference it makes to have the guitar "micked"!!

now? I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure Rafael de Utrera has been singing with Vicente for a long time (unless I'm confusing him with someone else...?)

Vicente features on Paquito Gonzalez cajon DVD from a few years ago.... but maybe he hasn't actually played live with Vicente? I don't know

Besides his effortless playing I've never seen him playing with such emotions. Look at his face. Sometimes it seems he nearly starts crying. For Paco...

After wondering where he was going with his more recent CD's, that was truly a treat, and reassuring. I think I've watched it a half dozen times today. Wonderful.

Thanks for the vids, guys.

I'm glad Vicente is appreciated here since there are lots of Vicente haters out there, specially in the Old School following. He is truly is in his own league and no one can touch him. Players who don't like him are usually "Cave Man" type guitarists from what I observed. (No offense to those Cave Men)

Never having heard a Cave Man play the guitar, I'm pretty sure I'm not one.
But I had a hard time appreciating Vicente at first because the albums I heard had a lot of tracks of virtuoso lounge music and annoying little repetitive themes, interspersed with a few really good pieces, but the really good pieces are often spoiled by tacky arrangements.
That fandango is a good example; on the album it's all going along beautifully until Chuck Mangione shows up and spoils the atmosphere - for me, anyway. YMMV.

But this live version is simply great, amazing. Thank you GJ for posting it - and Ricardo for the nice little human behind-the-scenes scene.

Estevan

I get your point with VA music as of late but he somehow almost always makes up for it with his virtuoso technique and this Silia y el Tiempo farucca piece played live specially for example. These behind the scenes / rehearsals / un-mic vids are so priceless to me. The Youtube Age is so great isn't it?

And no, you are NOT a cave man guitarist, mi amigo.
