Mundo Flamenco 3FA

Have a Mundo Flamenco 3AF for some weeks now, and I think it's a great guitar in itself, not to mention the price tag. A friend of mine also got a Mundo Flamenco 3AF which is even better sound wise, but has some issues as to the workmanship quality. The latter seem to vary quite a bit.

The quality of wood is - for all I know about guitars - rather stunning. The top construction is quite traditional, the air resonance of the body in stringed guitar is as deep as around F! And this, although the body isn't particularly big and the top isn't particularly soft or thinnish. So it seems it is a successful and consistent construction. It exhibits a deep growl in the bass and clear percussive treble with nicely melting and distinguishable chords. One has to work on the setup, though, to get everything really right.

I'm very content with this massive wood guitar and think it will take me quite a way during my studies.

It's a really nice guitar IMHO

Robert, I noticed no one has replied to your review of your new instrument. Are you a beginner? I'm assuming at least a beginner with flamenco. I just checked out the Mundo website and listened to the sound clip. It seems like a nice guitar for the price. I also noticed it's country of origin is China which would explain the low cost and perhaps you got a good one. One thing i've learned is that lower cost or entry level instruments can vary greatly in quality. My first flamenco guitar was a Rodriguez C3F and wasn't really that good. I didn't know much back then but it served me well until I got better and needed a better instrument. Enjoy it and play it and you will learn!

Have those clips on Mundo been tweaked with EQ and reverb added??
Or are they raw audio clips?

Yeah, good question. You can make a mediocre instrument sound decent by tweaking and EQ'ing. Who's to say its even the same guitar but hopefully its a sample of the actual guitar line.

Hi and thanks for responding. I play guitar for a long time and I also ventured into some kind of 'flamencoish' improvisations for a while, but recently (being almost age 60) I decided to learn a bit more systematically.

I actually have had and still have a very decent flamenco guitar before I bought the Mundo Flamenco 3FA; but this MF3FA guitar (though not as good as my other one) gives me more fun at the moment, because it is easier for me to bring out kind of flamenco quality of sound on it for the time being.

Probably the other one will shine more when I have learnt more techniques.

I'm not as experienced with flamenco guitars as I am with classical guitars, but by my standards this is anyway a well built and well sounding guitar (with some little flaws in finish). I think there is variation among the model, but even with hand made guitars there are variations in sound (though ideally there should be no variations in build quality).

I just listened to the sound sample on the home page of Mundo Flamenco and I think it basically is the sound of the guitar - I mean I do a lot of recording and it is very difficult to have a recording of a guitar sound exactly same as the guitar itself...

I do all the recordings for Mundo Flamenco.
No EQ or reverb is used for the sound demo samples.
All I do apply is a bit of limiting to get a certain loudness gain
If you want to hear some of these guitars with a more processed sound, you can check mundo flamenco's youtube channel...

Hi Thomas and Hello from Freiburg,

As I wrote, the recording pretty well renders the guitar as she is (with some microphone sound seasoning).

Of course limiters, being a sort of compressors, also change the sound by making it a bit more compact and punchy (depending on the exact way of using it).

I'd suggest, for totally uncolored recording to plainly use nothing but a pair of really fine neutral mics like DPA or Schoeps SDM not too close to the guitar and really fine preamps, and that's . Let the listener adjust the listening volume with his knob...

But I really like the sound of your recording and I find id does the guitar justice...
