RE: Paco de Lucia has passed away (in reply to Guest

I woke up to this news. Today will certainly be one of the worst days of my life. He's the reason I discovered this music and became a guitar builder. The reason I took up learning this beautiful art. RIP Maestro. RIP

I'm shocked and saddened but, I guess, not really surprised...the drug, alcohol and tobacco fueled flamenco lifestyle of the 70s and 80s now seems to leave a trail of destruction among the aging greats of that generation. Seems like barely anyone makes it beyond 70 nowadays...

That said, Paco has lived and done things worth several lifetimes and will never be forgotten. Like said, a fulfilling life indeed.

I cannot believe this. I have been dreading this day. So many musical geniuses of the 20th century have long since passed away. We were lucky that the maestro was still kicking ass into the 21st century. I could tell something was wrong when several people changed their avatars to Paco. I read the words and my stomach and chest just caved in. What an artist. One of the greatest of this or any time.

RIP Paco. I must have listened to his music exclusively for a year, so much material to listen to. No other musician has excited me in his way, I consider him my personal "greatest", in composition and technique. However I do not feel too sad, in fact I feel almost happy that an individual can have such an impact on the world, have so much power to affect people and yet none of it corruptible, tainted or wrong. This man has demonstrated the power of music. Paco has lived everything there is to be lived and has achieved immortality.

I learned this only about 2 hours ago. I have been waiting for Paco's next album hoping for something more traditional. I saw Paco three times in my life, once in London and twice in France. We have already lost 3 great guitarists in about 2 years.

Even though he was not a contributor here, he contributed so much to this foroflamenco I recommend his name be added to that of our friends Ron, Guy, Linda and Philip "who went ahead of us too soon".

Wow. Hard to believe. I feel very fortunate to have seen him live last year in what was the best concert of my life and one of the best experiences of my life. RIP, maestro. Your abilities are an inspiration to guitarists everywhere and your dedication to your craft has been an inspiration for life.

Nauseating

THe greatest guitarist that ever lived. Every note the man played was gold to me. His playing and his world of flamenco that he lured me into filled a huge void in my life right after my father died when I was 17. This is about the saddest day I have had since then. rest in peace maestro.

I cannot believe this! What a loss for the Flamenco world and the Arts. Frankly, he is the reason why I still pick up a guitar today. RIP Maestro.

I'm very saddened by this news. He was a living legend and I'm so
glad to have experienced his genius both on recordings and live in concert.

Ugh, I feel gutted. So unexpected, and I didn't realize it would hit me this hard. Had to leave
work this morning to have a little cry.

So glad I spent the bucks and made the trek to see him in Montreal front row a few years ago.
Might sound silly to some, but it was the closest thing to a religious experience I've had in my life.

Thanks for everything, Paco. RIP Maestro de Maestros

It's strange how music can have a twinge of nostalgia and sadness -- one that wasn't there before -- when the artist performing it has passed away. This morning I have already listened to Almoraima and Solo Quiero Caminar and the music almost sounds a bit more ethereal. Now moving on to Luzia, which truly holds a special place in my heart. I'll never forget that summer when I discovered the album at a local library, listening to it many dozens of times, memorizing every note and every nuance...

I don't remember the last time I've cried so much.

I read he was playing with his children when he died. There is no better place from which to exit this world.

I love his music. Like many here, he is the reason I was drawn to flamenco.

He's with with the gods now, where he belongs. Cheers!

Very sad. Los flamencos of Cadiz are devastated. I have just listened to the first CD with Camaron, great, though Paco was never my favourite tocaor , nor was Camarón my favourite cantaor. What a loss
