navarro guitar string choice

Hello everyone I recently purchased a new navarro student negra flamenco. I realize string choice is very subjective but I was wondering if there were certain string brands that work well with this guitar? I like the strings that came on it but im not sure what they were. I normally play medium or hard tension by the way. If anyone has any personal experiences with these guitars I would love to hear them.

The Navarro student model comes with D’addario strings. I don’t think much of them. Try LaBella 2001 Flamenco medium tension bass set, paired with LaBella Rectified Nylon medium tension treble set. Strings by Mail sells both sets separately.

Actually it is neither a cheap guitar nor cheap strings. The guitar is inexpensive, but it is a genuine luthier guitar made by Marlon Navarro, the equivalent of luthier guitars I have seen and played costing a lot more.

The strings are not “cheap strings” either. They are quality strings – I just don’t happen to like D’addario strings. Lots of other players do though.

^ what he said. I also do not like D'addario strings(specifically pro arte)....they sound very dull and without character, especially the trebles are just plain garbage to me...but maybe some people would disagree with me....also i've heard they're fairly consistent and last a decent amount of time...maybe that's why people like them. i bought a set as replacement strings, in case i couldn't order my usual/have them on my guitar for a lesson....i couldn't stand the sound, threw them away and rushed to the store to buy my usual strings.

High quality strings can make any instrument sound good but especially on cheaper guitars. Not saying that a navarro is a cheap guitar either. It's definitely good that you're starting on(idk if you're new to flamenco or not) a good guitar like that....some of the cheaper guitars can hinder your ability to learn properly.

I too am in the process of searching for my set of flamenco strings, i just bought a flamenco guitar....in the process of shipping

But anyways back on topic now...
i have done some searching on the forum and a few people said that:

Savarez Corum high tension basses and Oasis Carbon GPX high tension trebles are a good match.

Another guy said the savarez corum new cristal 500cj's are pretty good and another commented that Luthier 20 basses last longer than savarez corum.

They certainly are.

If your guitar doesn't sound good with D'addario Pro Arte, you should ask some questions of the guitar. Pro Arte are very good value, long lasting, consistent quality, and very hard to beat.

However, if you have a dead/dull sounding guitar you can brighten it up with something like Savarez Alliance or some other composites. But they are expensive.

If your Navarro is sounding sweet just stick with D'addarios

Who are you referring to? I can't find any reference to Savarez Alliance in this thread apart from my own mention of them. The Navarro has D'addario's apparently.
Unless I've missed something ?

I love Dadarios, they feel plenty bright to me. Savarez make my guitar nearly sound tin canny, they sound fine in my buddies guitar though....

RE: navarro guitar string choice (in reply to crooksj5

what did you wait my reply?
For the strings?

For the treble i use the alliance savarez, sometimes the oasis gpx carbon, but last time the E broke and cut my hand with blood on my conde,so now i afraid of this strings.

The luthier carbon are too thin.

And the hense, galli hannabach ....carbon are sukkks.

The carbon line are good too.

For the bass ,i prefer savarez too(HT,corum, cantiga). but poor life.

The dr junger mysterion have long life, but boring and not really flamenco.

The aquila alchemia are interesting. but thin.

Now if you play navarro ,it's unnecessary to use very good strings.
the pro arte are ok .

Don´t criticize another person´s guitar, especially in this nasty underhand way: if he is happy then he must try different strings until he finds what suits. This applies to Yamaha, Alhambra, Conde, Gerundino, etc. Any guitar will respond to adequate strings.

Wouldn't a great guitar sound great with any strings and a bad guitar need good strings to sound better? Logically that makes more sense no?

That's the reason why I trust no guitar until I play it with old strings.

Any guitar will sound better with good strings. But each guitar responds in a different way. As a rule it has cost me almost a year with each guitar to find out which strings suit it best and please me. For example, I use a mixture of D´Addario and Luthier and I am a great advocate of the brown composite 3rd of D´Addarrio which some people hate El libro de gustos es blanco.

I have a Navarro Concert Blanca Flamenco and have tried 8 or 9 different brands/types of strings on it. I started a thread somewhere, search my name. My favorites are the Felipe Conde Normal tension flamencos, and the Luthier Golds, medium tension. Currently I have Daddario Carbons on it and aren't crazy about them, I always go back to either the Conde or Luthier strings. They can both be found on stringsbymail.com.

I have a Navarro Concert as well and I'm finding the D'Addario EJ45C Pro Arte Composite Normal Tension strings to suite the guitar well. I also feel that they provide a bit more tension than the regular tension set of non composite. Gotta love that coffee colored g string!

Crooks I have a Navarro like yours and I use D'Addario Pro Arte EJ46C They sound real good. I also have a Conde and I have it strung with Savarez Corum Alliance high tension and it sounds good also. I will probably string the Conde with D'addarios when the Savarezs break, but they are a long lived strings.

Colleagues, my favorite strings are Gallistrings Genius Titanio GR40 Hard. They are very responsive, bright, true pitch, and long lasting. They are perhaps a little more demanding physically (high tension) but, in my opinion, the best I have purchased.
