Farruca compás

Hey! I'm a bit confused about the compás in Vicente Amigos "Silia y el Tiempo"
Would you say the piece is played by around 180-200bpm or half time 90-100bpm?
I saw this video and it sounds a bit like a rumba-tangos (180bpm)

Anyway I have the impression that Silia y el Tiempo is more or less a rumba with farruca feel.
I hope anyone of you can help me.
Thanks!

The guy on the vid is going for a kinda 332 feel (the first half of the son clave)

It is a bit much for me.

Here is a wiki page on the clave.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clave_%28rhythm%29

I don't know if it answers your question but I used to play simple melodies along to the clave tapping the foot at half time and clicking my tongue on the clave clicks.

It really changes the feel. You can even play straight stuff (like Bach) over it and note how different it makes you feel.

If you download weirdmetronome and type in

1001001000101000 it will give you a perfect endless clave to practice over.

thank you!
Do you mean the piece is more or less played with a 2/4 rhythm?

First I want to make it clear that you definitely know the piece a lot better than me. As I have just discovered it.

Also I just watched the rest of the video and the trad farruca compas that comes in at the end doesnt really fit feel wise with the backing (it's basically half time and the clave would sound real sweet at half the speed with it).

Yes and no with the 2/2 feel. But if you play along with the clave it will change everything and you will start to accent things differently.

Its like if you watch someone dance salsa real well and the appear to be doing almost nothing but if the clave is going through their whole body all the time and it makes everything they do super cool.

So is is kinda cut time (half time feel with downbeat accents on the two) but also the upbeat accents really give it life and feel.

Here is weirdmetronome.

Sorry if you are a mac user.

If you type in the 1001001000101000 to the dialog bar and set one to clave and the tempo to 360 then you will get it to play the clave.

Listen to it and tap you foot along in two (light and hard) bearing in mind that the clave lasts two bars.

If you practice playing straight scales slowly over this you might notice that they sound real square and classical. Keep listening and you will hear the feel change in your playing. I would recommend this to anyone.

nice!
I think I got it. At around 2:00 (the strumming part) on the recording there is a kind of rhythm change to a more 2/2 rhythm/feel
You helped me a lot thank you.

You're very welcome Jof.

It's good for me not to be a nuisance all the time.

My favorite Vicente piece. It sounds weird in that guys vid I think a lot due to the backing track, he's playing it to that feel and it makes it swing too much. Vicentes playing at a straight 190 or so. Lil swing but not like a funky tangos…….Even at the end when the tangos palmas starts it just feels straighter then this guys backing track…..
