Humicase Protege

I searched the archives but all I came up with is info on the Humicase Metro ... which I was told is rather flimsy.

Any love for the Humicase Protege?

Have to buy online as not available locally.
Opinions, advice appreciated.

Flimsy in what sense? I have one and think it is quite solid, more than any of my other cases. But it's not a flight case, nor is it advertised as such; I am pretty sure I could stand on it. In any case I hate it. I have it because the guitar came with it, it weighs a ton so I never carry it anywhere, and I don't need the humidity protection.

I had previously owned a Cordoba GK pro Blanca. Amazon had a deal that included that guitar with the Humicase Protege. I swindled guitar center to give me the same deal on the spot but when i tried to put the guitar in the case, it seemed an extremely tight fit.

A guitar 'expert' came and said that I was correct and the case was not a good fit for a flamenco guitar because it did not support the neck properly and that if the case were ever to drop that the case would cause the neck to break. That scared me enough to not get the case....or the guitar.

Now I have a Francisco Navarro Concert model and am in the market for a case with the features of the humicase.

A case with

-Built in humidification system (sound hole humidifier and headstock humidifier)
-Either a built in hygrometer or a slot for one

The humicase has both and is the reason i was interested in getting it.

The Humicase Protégé is a very good hard shell case - well built and sturdy. I would highly recommend it. Just don't use the humidifying pod that sits directly over the sound hole. If it leaks you get water right into the sound hole. I recommend using a case humidifier.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I like the Protege but not using the humidity pods makes it not worth the extra $$.

I have been reading several reviews of various cases and guitars not fitting seems to be a standard complaint with those bought off the internet, as I was thinking of doing.

Now I'm going to just drop by a local store see what they have in stock and try it out on my guitar before I buy, probably the safest bet for a good fit.

p.s. I liked the Hiscox Pro II but was put off them by reports of thevelour padding on the bottom of the case being basically non-existent. I think a good TKL type case is what I'll spring for.

I got a humicase metro(black) which is way too big for my Ramirez. If anyone is interested, I will let it go cheap.

I cannot stress the importance in advertising a product in the classified area versus in the general area as a reply to a thread unanimously disapproving the product.

Just a thought:)

I personally have looked vigorously at many descriptions of the Humicase protégé and have found some describing it as a 'classical/flemenco' case. In my understanding, one of the distinct differences between a classical and a flemenco guitar is the depth of the body. Would this not make the possibility of creating a case, that securely fits both a flamenco and classical guitar, impossible?

In the field of guitar cases there is no difference between a case for a classical or a flamenco guitar. No matter whether you buy a Carlton, Humicase, Accord, BAM, Hiscox, ... what else, forget about the "advantage" of a hygrometer. This is just a pseudo advantage and in fact means nothing, because they are defnitely not worth even a word to mention!

There are 3 types of hygrometers:
1) Hair hygrometer
2) Synthetical hygrometer
3) Spiral hygrometer

The most precise mechanical hygrometers are hair hygrometers only. All other types have a tolerance beginning at 35 % and are strictly useless! I currently don´t know any case containing a hair hygrometer. For the calibrating the hygrometer it needs to be de-installed. As far as I´m informed this is not possible on any present case available.

The most important a case needs is a strong stability to protect the guitar at best. E. g. a domed top leads off the impact energy to the frame of the case while a flat top forewards the energy directly onto the guitar body. Premium products have their difference in some details such as general material (wood, carbon fiber), better water protection, type of handle and one-click premium locks. So dot get blinded by the no-advantage of the hygrometer!

Note: For a genereal long time storage of the guitar I never would use a carbon fiber case. It isolates the guitar totally from its outside atmosphere. This means that carbon fiber does not breath, because premium products like Akkord or Carlton have locking rubber lips locking the guitar hermetically. A wood case is breathing a little bit even through its synthetic or leather cover. Carbon fiber is used at best for travelling.

Yes. For hair hygrometers I recommend TFA Dostmann, Fischer, Heka and Adorini.
Maybe your Abbeon didn´t work properly because you haven´t made a calibration.

Note that digital hygrometers of unknown brands need to be compared to a hair hygrometer to check the tolerance. Average tolerance of digital quality hygrometers is at 5 %. The heart of the digital TFA Dostmann 30.5010 is a swiss precision sensor and is used by many guitarists in Germany. Another premium product is the Hygrometer II by Xikar. It has a small slim design and is also available in a round design. It is calibratable, its tolerance is at 2 %:
