Zoom R16

Great piece of kit, only had it a few days but its awesome. Great to get away from a computer screen when recording. I used to use the old 4 tracks in the day, and this is like a 4 track on steroids. Just hit record and away you go. Very easy to use, and decent clean sound. Can record 8 channels at the same time, and play back/mix 16 channels. So you can record up to 16 separate tracks, im sure you can bounce them across too but probably never need to. Records onto SD cards. Granted ive only had it a few days but I must say I am wrapped so far with my purchase. This is any musicians dream come true even if you only use it as a musical sketch pad. Oh yeah and it can run off batteries and is super portable. Just awsome

Pic from the back showing the inputs. Plus it has 2 mics built in. All you need is this, a pair of headphones and a guitar. Stand alone goodness right there.

Oh yeah...the pre amps arnt amazing on this, they are just OK (reasonably clean but total lack of any character, and sound a bit trebly to my ears). So if you wanted to do a more serious recording I guess you would run your own mic pre and send that in through the line input and bypass the onboard pre's all together.
