I think some of you are taking this thread far too seriously. My take on it is that most of the comments (including mine above) were made half facetiously. I doubt that anyone on the Foro plays guitar only to pick up chicks. Maybe when we were 17 years old....

I've noticed the large majority of women I've dated, dated musicians in the past, like maybe 90%. I don't think women learn that quickly

yeah but i think if the dog is too fluffy and cute, you will end up being "the best friend to talk to" type of guy for her, who has to listen to all her problems for hours and then she would leave and go to someone else for "action".
pitpull on the other hand makes her think you are trying to compensate your missing manliness. so not good either.

i think a german shepperd is best option.
not too aggressive and doesn't bark too much, but if necessary can handle the situation.

Though seriously; to me it appears rather likely that a considerable percentage of male youngsters who approach the guitar do it for image considerations.

Many of which - unless they happen to find out that they have a talent for seamless playing, or an instructor who has one for teaching it - will drop it again after some half-assed trials.

Further, I assume that who can easily put down his instrument for good after advanced state of playing, to have not been motivated by passion for the sound, but by something external like parents who once requested rehearsing or image reasons like above.
Just like my assumption that overlly critical people who can´t enjoy imperfection to be musically insensitive.

Meaning that´s how I can only imagine things, not that it couldn´t be another way too.

Big strong dogs could evoke admiration for you as "master of the beast", but could also seen as shield like mentioned above already.

Some could like it, while others possibly be more impressed with something smaller like a beagle, cocker etc., adoring you for being so humble / peaceful and selfconfident that you don´t need your dog as body guard.

Some seem to appreciate originality and spirit, others to be seeking for masculine shelter behind haired brest with golden necklace.

All that´s certain is that guitars and dogs don´t hurt for making contacts.
( Even here where the traditional common sense demands dogs to be regarded as filthy vermins, and where normally no female will dare talking to a stranger, I have experienced girls´ and ladies´ ecstasy about dogs. Especially with Hermann who isn´t too big and has very dear eyes. "Oooh, is this sweet!! Can I stroke it?")

Too serious answer for humorous suggestions, but I felt like it.

Pat H. and I both took up the guitar for musical reasons, not to pick up girls. Pat's speech was very slow, deliberate, but often original and insightful. After he played a gig at an Austin coffee house with the great country bluesman Mance Lipscomb, an admiring kid came up to Pat, and eventually asked the inevitable, "How long have you been playing?"

Pat smiled, looked off into the distance, and said in his ultra-slow west Texas drawl, "I was born with a guitar in my mouth."

The guitar was a major obsession with Pat. He still plays, very well. Among his accomplishments is the solo guitar sound track for a 40 minute film documentary that won international prizes.

But in addition to the guitar, Pat was also obsessed with picking up women. It was from him at university that I learned one of the major fringe benefits of guitar playing.

I would say not only quantity of women but quality as well(speaking purely aesthetically). I feel it bumps you up a couple notches on the 1-10 scale, when I should've been dating 6's and 7's my whole life I've been lucky enough to pull 7's 8's and even a few 9's. 10 doesn't exist btw

Further to my theory that all threads are converging..... I was once leaving a secure hospitial for insane geriatrics carrying a guitar after a music group (mostly singing) and a toothless old crone came up and said.

Mind you, I do have long hair but never carried a guitar case while out with the dogs, that would make picking up dog poo a little more challenging. Wonder if that would increase or decrease my desirability?

Its amazing the number of times Iam about to say something and you (Lenador) post it before me.

...why not, its as gooda reason as any...jk....but not really

i am of the opinion that pretty pretty much everything, we men or women do weather consciously or subconsciously is to attract the opposite sex (for whatever purpose..depending in the stage you are at and what you are looking for)...starting from the shower in the morning, to shaving, the brushing of the teeth, working out to getting the good job to get the nice car/house/clothes...to get an advantage at natural selection...not all that different from the rest of the animal kingdom

btw!!...mine worked ! i am getting married

from now on for me its just maintenance shower, shaving and brushing of the teeth ..I am gonna let myself go like Elvis in 76 lol

oh yes, its already like that, i eat and breathe wedding lol and still 6 month to go..shes got about 40 wedding magazines by now...that save the date picture its exactly what it is..only then I had just proposed...we were posing, now its really happening :-)

so back to the original topic, yeah i dont think its hurting... playing flamenco guitar..and i got a small dog too just to double my chances
