This was the video that got me into Flamenco and into guitar actually. I started learning by myself some basic Blues stuff about 6 months before watching Paco for the first time and this video was definitely what got me hooked.

I don't really have favourite videos or guitarists or cantaores, but here is another video I really like. This one has everything, Pepe and Juan, Estrella singing with her mother and grandmother, and, most of all, Soleá's pretty face.

Love this 'cus it's without all the violins and what not on the album, also an awesome ending that's not on the album.

And this 'cus it was the first video I saw where I really appreciated the whole flamenco package (cantaor, bailaor, tocaor) as opposed to being stuck on solo guitar stuff.

That Solea was terrific Pink !
Great to hear a really different young voice.

Didn't sound like a Paco or Vicente clone despite having clearly absorbed their styles.

Nothing so interesting from me but I guess this has to be a classic video and a real bulletproof performance.

Norman - that dancing is spooky.. it is like slow motion - she has such control.

These will be familiar to the old hands, but anyway..

This has to be the winner of the 'how much crazy kinetic flamenco energy can you cram into every picosecond of measurable time'.

It could also be entitled 'flamenco on ice' looking at how Carmen unintenionally slides around strutting her stuff.

I swear that table visibly has an orgasm towards the end her knuckle-smashing episode.

This is also amazing.. more pure, raw oldish-school stuff that needs a regular airing :

Glad you liked it manicfingers. I love her carefree little laugh at the end. The sequence from "Los Tarantos" plays a little fast. It's not so obvious in the singing, but it's noticeable in most of the movements. For example, at about 0:27, in the facial expressions of the bald guitarist, just before he shouts, "¡Agua!" If I remember correctly, one of my favorite lines in the whole film is spoken just before the sequence starts: "Now the mother-in-law is going to dance!"

This is still my favorite from rito y geografia...the unsung hero that (sorry to whatever aficionado thinks differently) just simply sings better and with more heart and precision and skill and charisma than any famous one. His recordings few and far between are considered "ok" by aficionados, but this intimate look shows me something totally amazing. Makes me wonder seriously about the old maestros cantaores from the golden era, as all we have are the recordings.

I don't like bull fights but it can lead to good flamenco....the little girl after the break can tell you how voluminous singers can sing.

I was kind of disappointed with the last one... Cool concert, but that guitar Pepe is playing ruins everything... Awful sound...

Thanks for posting this. I had not gotten around to watching that one. Platero has loads of charisma and some kick-ass pipes!

I think it's safe to say that this series contains some of the most special recorded moments in the history of flamenco. Being able to watch and study the cantaores has deepened my appreciate for cante immeasurably.

Here's one of my favorite episodes that also includes Platero - fandangos naturales
