Hey from Utrecht (The Netherlands)

Hey there! I've been following the foro already some time without posting anything (I was afraid it will become an addiction :p), but as I'm planning to join the solea challenge, it's about time I introduce myself :).

I'm 27 years old and conduct research in theoretical computer science. I play guitar for about 10 years now, and take lessons for about 3 years. My parents used to listen to the cd 'entre dos aguas' by PdL, so that's how I got interested in flamenco. In fact, ;) the famous rumba on the cd was one of the first songs I'd try to master since I liked it so much (and yes it takes a loooong time, I still don't fully master the fast picado's :)). Besides this I also totally enjoy playing Gipsy Jazz guitar and various other styles.

I have fond memories of Utrecht, especially in the summer time...

Here another Dutch (wannabe) flamenco guitarplayer from Roermond, Limburg, with that soft 'G'.....haha

Welcome to the foro and greetings from Rotterdam :-)

If you read my recent post about some of the flamenco developments in the Netherlands (posted on the page about the dutch flamenco biënnale) you probably noticed Utrecht played a very important role in promoting flamenco in the netherlands like offering the first dutch flamenco dance school (50ties) and offering the first flamenco concert series (Vredenburg, late 80ties)... as a result it became known as utrera del norte

@Erik Interesting! didn't know that (although I was familiar with the name Utrera del Norte :)). Anyway, there is definitely some flamenco activity in Utrecht :D :D.
