I bought a guitar from Benito about a year ago. The contact info I have of him is the same as on his website (except for the phone #). I'm pretty sure the best way to reach him is via email.

Thank You Juan,
If you dont mind me asking, how did you remit payment for the guitar? Other builders from Paracho have a middleman / distributer here stateside. It appears that this is not the case with Mr. Hiupe.

Best Regards,

RE: Benito Huipe (in reply to daffeey

I've owned three (3) Benito Huipe flamenco guitars, and bought two of them directly from Benito himself. This was a few years ago, and we communicated via email. But to avoid any misunderstanding, we also spoke on the phone. One of my past instructors, Augustin Rios had a Benito Huipe cedar top blanca, which was freakin awesome. I eventually was able to purchase a similar Benito Huipe cedar top blanca which was very similar. ...I eventually tracked down Benito Huipe and asked him to build me a spruce top. We communicated via email, but when there was any questions to be clarified, we spoke on the phone. With my limited Spanish and his broken English, we were still able to communicate. The blanca he made me was just as awesome and was my playing guitar for a few years. I eventually asked him to build me a negra. ...In short, the detailing and his finish work on the guitars are very rough, but the sound of his guitars are first rate. If ordering, you should confirm final price. Lesson learned. Just thought I would share my experience, for what it's worth.

But to answer your question, I have not ordered through his website, which appears to be relatively new or a work in progress. I would call him.

Best Regards,

I wired the money from my bank to his bank in Paracho. It wasn't an account-to-account transfer, it was more like a Western Union transfer but it was cheaper and it was with my bank. There's always risk I suppose, but I spoke with him a couple times on the phone as well as via email, so I felt confident it was him. It worked out for me, is all I can really say.

However he increased the price when it came time for him to ship the guitar. For obvious reasons, I wasn't really happy, specially since I had already provided a down payment. We eventually worked out a compromise and I got the guitar. .

.

Well that was not bueno at all, it actually is down right shady...

Strangely, I do not see the above quote that you attribute to Ted in his posting above. Was that in a private communication?

Best Regards,

When my spruce/Brazilian classical was ready, Abel Garcia emailed me his bank details, and I wired the money to his bank, the Paracho branch of one of the big Mexican banks. It was a normal wire transfer, except I was living overseas at the time and my local bank went through JP Morgan Chase in New York as a correspondent bank. No problem.
