Ben Woods on All Strings Considered

I don't love everything he does but some of it just really speaks to me. There's a bulerias at the end that's just right up my alley and it's probably cus I'm a metal head too but I love what he says about a lot of flamenco coming out now being mariconao.

cool interview. Like and agree with a lot of stuff he says. His old music brought me back, somehow reminded me of Elegant Gipsy-Brand X days. They had a good drummer... good musicians. Hope he enjoys playing his new stuff... otherwise, it's the price of making a living.
Thanks for posting

yeah i was attracted to flamenco because of my background as a fan of classic metal and classic goth...the phrygian scales and the dark atmosphere of those genres parallel with flamenco..in fact they probably draw a lot from flamenco, certainly more so than they do the blues

I haven't listened to this yet but I'll try to get away with it while I'm working.

You should check out Sam Dunn's documentaries: Metal: A Headbanger's Journey, Global Metal, and the Metal Evolution series. They take an anthropological view on the history of heavy metal. Definitely a good watch.

I concur, great docs, I would only add to that "Get Thrashed" by Rick Ernst, best documentary about the history of thrash metal there is.

Like Ben talks about in the interview, they're kind of like a gateway drug. I'll admit it, they were my introduction to "Spanishy sounding guitar" and it's not that I hate them now, it just kinda sounds like the same song over and over.

" What you did was very spiteful, but it was also very brave and very honest and I respect you for doing that. But the content of what you said has made me hate you. So there's a layer of respect, admittedly, for your truthfulness, but it's peppered with hate. Hateful respect." Aldus Snow - Get Him To the Greek...

When I was a kid, I saw Jose Greco on TV and was blown away with the music and dance. It took me a long time to finally to get to Flamenco but on the way I learned how to play the guitar witih the help of friends and a buddy's brother who played in a hard rock group. My journey took me through hard rock and metal and I'm still a big fan of those genre's. As was mentioned earlier, I too loved A Headbangers Journey and feel there are many similarities between the styles...
