Fretless??? mmmm??? interesting

Hello everyone, does anyone here owns or has played a fretless guitar? I can only imagine a fretless flamenco guitar, play flamenco and incorporate the Maqams, (what would be the equivalent to scales in western music) would this put flamenco in a different "dimension"? mmmmm???? just wondering....

What do you think.

Friendly regards.

I played a fretless electric, didn't really like it, might be good for some genre's like jazz but it was a pain to play metal on. I would think it'd be a pain for flamenco too......

I have an old fretless gut-strung five string banjo.

I had been thinking about that too and think it could be an interesting experiment, some Maqams might fit really well. But learning those Arab scales (Maqams) is not something easily to learn i would say...

No, but some local chap I know had a custom-built fretless bass.

Sounded fine by itself, but when he tried to play with groups - ouch!!!

He eventually had it fretted. . .

I have a friend who uses a fret-less guitar to achieve a sound like the eastern oud i.e to achieve half-flat and half-sharp notes

An unmentionable company makes them, but no one actually plays one.
