My technician (back before I did my own setups) would do the whole thing in front of me while I waited. It was a small shop and was easily managed by two people. Waiting was not a chore since I was welcome to chat about the set-up procedure or play lots of expensive guitars for an hour or so. I preferred to chat.

An ideal guitar set-up process should have the player present. That way, the technician can have the player test the guitar and determine if a little fine tuning is needed.

Seeing set-ups done in person was very helpful in my learning process. I began to understand what I could do myself, what I could do if I invested in the right tools, and what I should leave to a complete professional.

As a precaution, since I now understand that you live in Arizona, consider investing in an inexpensive hygrometer for your practice room and an good leak-proof in-case guitar humidifier. The hygrometer may at least let you know if it's safe for you to leave your guitar outside of its case for very long periods.

I would of LOVED to wait and see how set up is done, but, the guys are busy and I have to respect that...

When you come to think of it...Sanding down the saddle isn't hard to do, but, if you I made a mistake then, I would of had to buy another one...

GuitarVlog, I will look into a hygrometer for my Yamaha! It make sense, since I live out in OVEN LAND!

Regarding setup.. seems like the Alhambra 4F is coming from factory with EXTRA high tension, the 6th string is a 0.0047... One of the most enjoyable sets of strings that I played was Aranjuez and the 6th was at .0039 if I remember correctly.

.0047 sounds like overkill.. anyone here uses this kind of diameter?

..So you really got to grow that beard out a lot more around the back of the neck into a more 'Mane' type of hear thing to earn this new name ....

I myself have a Yamaha Hermanos Ciento-setenta y dos Ese-efe blanca...I haven't made any modifications, except for putting on LaBella 820 reds...sounds good for a student guitar

Do you think putting a bone saddle would really make that much a difference in sound? I'm not sure it would, but I could be wrong

El Rubio suggests them (Yammies) until one is at a level that buying a luthier made guitar is worth the investment and it sounds like decent advice. I'd rather make investments in skype lessons when I have the time and if I'm at an intermediate level in a few years and am totally improvisationally proficient in all the main palos then get some luthier guitar in the 2-3 k price range

You all are going to think I am CRAZY, well, hell yeah, I am, CRAZY!!! I returned the Yamaha last week!

Gonna wait and save for a built guitar....

I think my subconcious mind was making my hand hurt because DEEP down I want a better guitar!!!

I do think that the guitar action could of been dropped a little lower, however, the repair guy was giving me excuses! He didn't even want to measure the low E string at the 12th fret as I requested.

I didn't have the proper measuring tools to do it before hand!

So off to Guitar Center to return it last week in AZ!

If anyone is interested in it, you might want to call the Peoria Avenue store in AZ!

They still might have it available...

Iam pretty satisfied with my Alhambra 4F and the action is crazy low.. the high E doesnt even reach 2mm at the 19th fret. Very confortable with a punchy sound all over the neck, no dead spots and great fret job.

Iam telling you this just in case you find a well priced one, I think you would be satisfied with since it is also a proper flamenco guitar.

Mine is brand new, it was finished in the factory the day after I ordered it.

Today I recorded something (audio) but the cheap equipment that was used and the purpose of the recording (to show my solea 12beat bits to Lenador so that he tells me if it fits or not) dont do justice to the instrument. Also my crappy right hand playing and slow speed nature of the recording wont leave a good impression either

Trust me, if you can find one within your budget and it is as good as mine, you wont be disappointed. BTW, the ones made before march 2012 are a little different, dont know if it is only in a cosmetic way though.

just like to thank you for replying, the 171 you returned to the guitar center was it used or new. i live in new york nd just purchased a used just arrived yamaha 171 from them yesterday

p.deleon, you can only purchase a used flamenco 171 USED! I am wondering if that is the Yamaha I returned last week!

I orignially purchased the Flamenco Yamaha from New York!!!

It's not a bad guitar, but, just not what I was looking for!!

As long as you're happy with the sound, color, shape, smell and looks of your guitar that you enjoy having it near you and it makes you want to play, then your guitar is good. In fact, it is great!
