Gerardo's back! From the look on his face he seems really happy with his playing. Glad to see he's doing so well...

That's some really good news! I suppose He's stronger than before overcoming a problem like that...

are you sure this video is recent?

because,in march 2012 i saw him in jerez, very close of him,in theatre, and i remember he dont use his index finger, just some time for rasgueos,he dont play any tremolos, and for scales he use finger a-m,and for rapid scale,p -i like a pick.

for the arpegios too,he dont use much index finger.
i found that incredible, and the show was good.

so im surprise now he can use his index finger like that??

Check the date - he posted it yesterday, that's pretty recent

BTW does anyone know what type of injury Gerardo sustained and whether it was a playing-related injury?

I will dig up old story but we don't think it was playing related but rather due to a shock vibration in his hand and harm that gave him wip lash (car accident) that went untreated too long.

I am more impressed by the video because he is struming compas with index which he could not do long ago. I can sense that it is still a bit awkward for him, but definantly a huge improvement.

RE: Gerardo Nunez playing a scale - ... (in reply to Ricardo

i'm glad he's improving...he put up other videos too before where he was using his index, but not so well as now...

in an interview he said his index was just way too overused and that's how he developed the problem...who knows what else he's not talking about...i talked to Tino earlier this year and he didn't know either...
but the main thing is that hopefully he will be able to recover completely so we can enjoy his full capacity!

I wonder if he gets down the precision he had in arpegios. I hope so much that he can.

First, f**********************ck yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Second, I agree, both that this picado sounds stronger than the earlier videos and (with Ricardo) that the more extensive use of the index in rasqueados is stronger. I dare say the picado in the most recent video is stronger (because more ambitious) than the picado run on the opening track of Travesia (one of the few picado runs on that album).

Regarding Ricardo's point, and just for comparison, here's an earlier video (which, I'm sure, is old news for a lot of the regulars here):

The new video (to which Grisha linked) looks promising. I hope this recovery continues.

didn't richardo found out that his finger was caught in a car door?

i'm so glad it's good for him, even when he was 'index problem' he was better than most players in the flamenco world.

nothing's certain...it may have been a car door, or a car accident, or overuse, or a combination of these, i guess we'll never know...
