RE: nino de pura (in reply to Grisha

Grisha,
I went for some lessons a couple of years ago to a Flamenco guitarist called Rafael, who was just in his 30's and had just produced a great album that really got to me.

We chatted and played away and I had to admit that his playing was great, but wasn't startling like his album.
He said "This is me just playing at home, but when I do a concert I shift up into a different gear".
I'm sure you know that feeling being such a fantastic player yourself!
So obviously this "moving up a gear" has got nothing to do with technique...you need that to begin with...but more of a frame of mind on the night.

By the way I read a couple of things on this thread on Paco Peña, and all I can say is that at every concert I've seen him in, he's always sounded exactly like on his albums.
He can play soft and astonishingly hard!

A lot of years ago when he was in his mid-twenties, he had just acquired the Gerundino.
He let me hear it in his hotel room.....it sounded like it was plugged into a 100W amplifier.
He wouldn't let me touch it.
He was totally in love with the guitar and in fact offered to sell me his Arcangel Fernandez for about $300 since he thought the guitar I had was crap and I think he felt sorry for me.
Sadly I didn't have the dough at the time!
So how's that for an all-time bummer!
He played a quiet Malagueñas on it for me too, complete with that really controlled tremelo of his.
I left very impressed!
Believe me everyone ...Paco Peña is good!

cheers

Ron

Im hearing Nino de Puras "Marquida" right now. Ok there is an orchestra, trumpets, special woman-vocals,violins, bells,..and keyboard which makes every track a bit...ok very shoddily. Only a waterfall and some singing birds are missing. But its all well played.

It depends on my browser, I think. When I wrote something, before the next answer Im automatically loged out.

Uploaded some samples of his Pozo Y Caudal album, i think a better representation of the guitarist he is now.

His compositions have cought up with his technical abilities in this album, in my book hes in top 10 best flamenco guitarists

Barba, nowadays Conde. His Barba was broken up in a car accident and I imagine he was offered a free Conde.

Oh.. how horrible for a guitarrist. In past I kicked my guitar down from the sofa when I jumped up when somebody came in. It turned into a sooooo sad day. The head broke from the neck.. even the highlander wouldnt survive that.

So many professinal players play conde.. thats crazy... There must be billions of conde guitars on the world.. I know so many people playing cone... and me, too.

Like Enrique de Melchor, very underrated player, dedicated more to cante than a solo career.
