Julio Vallejo FOUND!

I finally tracked Julio down in Cucaramanga, Colombia where he lives with his family and teaches classes over the internet. Being one of the original backup guitarists for PDL on his first album {check out Entre Dos Aguas for his name} he has some impressive credentials. he has some vids on Youtube of varying quality. The first {not a vid, but audio file} I put up which was an ancient recording of him kicking out the jams playing Czardas with a Japanese violin player named "Akira" who was well known around Madrid in the early 70's.
Here are some links:

He can be contacted here: juliovallejo_@hotmail.com

That would be paco's 3rd solo guitar disc. Good find he is VERY good! Wonder if Ruben knows that back then there actual WERE some legit students of PDL....it really shows in this guy's playing.

Very nice... Is he originally from Colombia? I remember seeing his name on the LP I have of "Recital de Guitarra de Paco de Lucia".

Many gitanos are still full of praise for him. The legendary phantom that never shows up for a long time!

Julio is a Madrileño through and through. I talked with him about 4 days ago and he is getting settled into the life in Colombia with his family.

I think you meant Bucaramanga, Colombia. I have several friends from there.

Yet another totally irrelevant ignorant comment from you about Ruben. Isn't it time you let it go, whatever it is.

Don't mind me, it's just my envy and jealousy due to my ignorance. I drop it now. You do the same.

That must be the reason. Dropped.

thanks for posting, i never knew who he was, just the name credited on the "Recital" album....

Paco has said in interview (back in the 80's or 90's) that he does not teach, that he does not have the patience for it.

Because of this I am skeptical of anyone who claims to be a "student of PDL".

If I study Paco's music from recordings or vids (or from seeing him live, or asking him questions backstage after shows), can I claim to be a "student of PDL"?

The only people who I think come close are the people who have performed or recorded with him, and you don't get to do that unless you are pretty high level to begin with - Enrique de Melchor toured with Paco early on, as well as playing on Recital, the other guys credited on Recital, and then Tomatito, Cañizares, JM Banderas, Niño Josele

We are all students of PDL, even if we have never met him in person.
