Hey everyone, i've been following the foro for a while now and was a member with a different email that i don't use anymore. So I've decided to start over and hopefully become more active within the foro(with a much cooler screen name).
some info about me: Well i'm left handed, and live in san diego. As far as school goes, i was studying computer science but music has always been my first love, and i have now fully committed to music. I started taking private lessons a few semesters ago for classical guitar, and then one day....something clicked and a light bulb turned on...yes i had turned the light on in my room! No actually, i saw a video of Paco playing Impetu(bulerias) and from that moment on i knew that this is what i wanted to do. The rhythms are very complex and interesting, the music has feeling, and a lot of the techniques seem to be pretty difficult...these are all things that drew me to flamenco, and not to mention we get to accompany for beautiful dancers from time to time! So that being said, my taste in flamenco is probably closer to the traditional "old school" sound.
I saw a few other members post that they were in the San diego area and i just want to say... (by the way i am in La mesa) if any of you want to get together, practice and help each other learn, i'd definitely be interested in that...if my schedule permitted. The next few weeks are getting crazy in college but after that i should be free. (just be warned...i haven't learned the different compas's yet! =(...my tone production seems to be pretty good though...anyways i am following some of juan martin's books currently and am going to take private lessons for flamenco in the near future) But it might be best to learn by ourselves anyways...although later on, it would be awesome to collaborate with other guitarists.
One last detail i forgot to mention....I'm about as gringo as they come.

Hey Jim!, awesome another foro member in la mesa. If you ever want to collaborate or help each other out, let me know. But like i said...the best way may be to just practice solo and with an instructor...and it does become a hastle driving here and there...when you can just practice anywhere. Ohh and also i might not have much to offer in the ways of advise other than what my teachers have told me, and for all i know you could be a flamenco virtuoso anyways. That being said, once i become familiar with the rhythms and have some songs down, i might start trying to earn some cash as a musician...even if that entails "busking" at balboa park....gotta start somewhere right.(but anyways i wouldn't mind "busking" with another guitarist...but we'd have to have duo songs down or know which keys we can improvise in ect. and agree upon how to split the loot.) Currently i just practice guitar in between classes....in the hallway and i get loads of compliments every day...which is nice but(and also i know i am doing a lot of things wrong haha but will try to fix those in time) what i really enjoy is exposing people to the sound of flamenco....people who might not have heard it before. exposing might be a bad choice of word right there but you get the idea.
hey thanks for the input guys ! :) It's actually funny you should mention Juan Moro, my classical guitar teacher has recommended him to me as well. I guess the original plan was to try and get lessons with him when i transfer to san diego state...but my attitude is more along the lines of...the sooner the better. I have spent many hours on various techniques....that's great and all but now I'm starting to figure out how they fall into the compas.... my e a m i rasqueo was not a triplet before.
Also Lenador, haha i have the same problem that you had. My Picado is a triplet at the moment! It is very fast and still fairly clean but it's not correct. The problem is, it's engrained in my muscle memory now and it's going to be very hard to get rid of; or at least to learn the correct way in addition to. My classical teacher says that i might not want to fully get rid of that technique but to try and learn the proper way as well. I am starting to find out that learning a technique in music isn't really that hard if you start doing it correctly from the very beginning, but it's much harder to reverse something that is deeply engrained in your muscle memory.

Haha Hey thanks man!, i look forward to hearing you guys as well! It is very interesting hearing how people interpret songs differently and input their own sound. So I have heard some of the contest entries and i know a lot of you guys are really awesome!
I have a condenser mic but don't have the cables and audio interface yet to hook it up.(if i need one? think i do....read that you want your condenser mic to give off a somewhat faint signal so you can minimize background noise, and then up it with preams) But hey...yeah it would be nice to get feedback on stuff i need to improve on and such.
Ohh sweet i am a Guero now too! what an honor! haha. Sounds like i'm gonna have to learn spanish to, which i have already tried to learn a while back. But it's a good idea so i don't accidentally tell someone...hey i'm Burro Flamenculo on the foro. In fact i don't even know if flamencuro is a real word, it just had a nice rhyme to it.

That's what I was thinking, the idea of a Spaniard saying it sounded weird to me. I've always preferred gringo to gabacho but guero would be my first choice.
