White deposits in Indian RW

I am Currently building two Negras one is East Indian rosewood. The Indian is full of white deposits which I thought were just on the surface. I realized very quickly that it was all the way through the wood.

So, can it be hidden somehow or is there some magic potion that can be applied that will make it go away? (Sharpie?) :)
Maybe I should just leave it and as a natural quality of the wood...

I would do that as if it's natural it shouldn't be ugly

I've noticed some yellowish dots also on brazilian rosewood, altough it might be a pore filler material

I have no expertise to call upon in this area, El Polaco, but if East Indian Rosewood normally does not have these spots/blemishes/deposits, I would want to make sure that this is not some blight that infected the tree, and that now adheres to the wood, or that infected the wood after it was cut.

I think Leaving it natural makes the most sense. I do not know if it is possible, but I think it would look great if you could use a dark finish on the back and sides, and a clear or light colored finish on the top. This would tone down the white spots, and create an incredible contrast between the top and sides. But I have never finished a guitar and a two-tone finish may be difficult to execute...

You could try wiping a piece of scrap with acetone/nail polish remover.

I had the same thing on my last guitar, although not as much as the side in your picture. When I pore filled with pumice and alcohol it went away, don't know if yours would do the same.

I did try rubbing with alcohol this morning and it seems to be going away somewhat. Ill try that when I have it closed up and am ready to start the polishing... Thanks!

Those are probably mineral deposits. It happens from time to time. You might want to do some samples ahead of time.

Start with shellac and see if a few coats brushed on saturates the white and turns it dark.
If not then try dark brown aniline dye and a small pointed brush and stipple them out.

When you have to color something in often times stippling makes a better transition from repair/colored in areas to natural wood than thick strokes of pigment.

You do want to be careful because sometimes sharpie will bleed color, so stippling is good. Sometimes sharpie works in the dark dark areas of the wood. Then lay on some clear shellac to seal it off from your padding action, which could solve it and smear it.

But you want to make sure what ever you do saturates and "clears" the white and does not lay on the surface over it and look opaque under the shellac.

I would try that, or just regular cut, what ever cut you have laying around. You could also clear with alcohol first then lay on some shellac, the alcohol will wet it so the shellac can penetrate. But with alcohol alone it will usually revert back to looking white.

But I would figure it out while you have down time waiting for glue to dry while you build. Solving the finish issues several days before you get there makes you more confident. And mucking around on a guitar you just worked hard on as a test subject is always nervous making.

I have some good sized off cuts with the white deposits on it so ill mess around with the shellac tomorrow.
