He's playing a negra as well.

UGH, I am starting to really love negra flamenco guitars!

This is an awesome version of Cepa Andaluza.
Grisha is playing a Devoe Blanca that has blue coloring
on the back and sides. I got to play this guitar last weekend when he
did a concert for my guitar society and it is fabulous.
Grisha is one of the best!

Wow. His sound is just super clear as always. You can hear every note play and it's not muddled at all. Thanks for sharing! A wonderful bulerias!

He flicks his rasgueado, definitely...you can even see the tension before it releases and flicks out. He just doesn't bend his thumb like a lot of other people.

Nice playing, and filming and sound is good too. He does bend and flick several times as normal. It's not always appropriate to do it...too many students learn that flicking and do it for EVERY rasgueado.

His guitar IS cypress, and it sounds a lot better to me than other instruments he used in the past. VEry percussive sounding.

Alzapua in the middle came out 2 beats short. Still sounds cool though. AT least it's not like Tumbona where paco was 3 beats short himself in one falseta.

NIce video. To me this guitar sounds more like a classical though. I mean the trebles mainly.

GUILTY But I think for me it's because most of the material I've learned from that is what is mainly showned....

I thought it was negra because the back looked dark like rosewood...Thanks for carlifying Ricardo

As others pointed out in the thread already, the back and sides are cypress but stained a dark BLUE color. Very odd...and yeah it looks like rosewood at a casual glance. A look in the soundhole reveals the wood is blanca cypress. AT first I thought this guitar was veneered or doublesided, rosewood veneered to cypress back. But in better lighting it was blue!!!

I played it and had a juerga with Grisha just couple years ago. My friend sang and we both played for him, so yeah he has some experience athough his career is strictly solo playing. He was fantastic at improvising in the typical PDL fashion over rumba as well.

Grisha,

Have you ever had a play of a good 70's/80's Conde? The lester de voe sounds beautiful, but i can hear that the response is different. Do you find that it's making playing Paco's material harder than it needs to be?

Man, I would love to see you with a good conde. I know they cost mega bucks but for you it would be worth it. One with a great response, sound and easy playing. As close to paco's favorite as possible. I believe it would make your life a lot easier.

Of coarse keep the lester as well

Thanks, friends!

It certainly has been fun playing here in Austin. So many great people here and fine musicians!

Ricardo, it never occurred to me that the alzapua was short; I'll pay more attention to it next time I perform.

Doit, you know I'll have my own compositions one day, meanwhile relax and be patient.

I never really tried the old Condes, I am sure they sound fabulous. When I compose, though, the de Voe I have is all I need or ever want. It's just great!

Actually, I just checked it out again, it's not really short any number of notes, it's just that you pushed the tempo way up and then the remate (finally strummed A chord) seemed to be early since you then resume the tempo you had before the alzapua launched. It actually has a lot of drama that way, it's cool. It just stood out to me I guess as the rest of it is pretty razor sharp tempo wise.

Thanks Grisha for this.

Very nice playing. Tempo is good. I liked this very much! I would like to say that there could be a little bit more dynamics in basic compás, but this is only one way to look at it. Sometimes it's better to play more straight, but sometimes it could also be more "living". Louder/lower etc.

But anyway, Very nice and amazing playing. Thanks!

At last, Grisha Goryachev comes to Germany.

On November 11 2012 he will perform in Oberhausen, Germany.
His performance probably will contain both classical as (of course) flamenco music.
As Oberhausen is not far from the Netherlands, this concert is also a great opportunity for his Dutch fans to go there.

For more info (in German) http://www.obsaitensprung.de/

Hope to see you there,
Geert.

Ole Grisha! Totally brilliant man, whew.

I love to watch you polish these tunes more and more over the years.

I mean, you always have played them brilliantly, but i can hear you tweaking things, and its neat to watch you do that.

And your stamina is just off the charts. Mindblowing.

Awesome man, Ole'

You tell him Doit. And if he doesn't listen then play one of those Chicuelo falsettas and show him who's boss.

because guitar playing is about showing others who the boss is

Especially with playing a falseta that is from somebody else, via Chicuelo or Paco. =P

Oh great! Really nice playing Grisha, seriously you'll be playing Paco's stuff
better than Paco soon.

Of course I have to say - This video is another reason I at times feel like burning
my guitar, and taking up finger painting as a hobby.

Best Regards,
Jeff
