Pacos' new guitar.

If anyone is interested, Paco De Lucia has bought a new guitar from Guiter Salon in California.
It is a Pepe Romero Cedar/Ind with the reversed bracing and you can have a look at the photos and such here.

Typical GSI overpricing but I doubt Paco paid that amount. Looks like a nice guitar though.

I watch guitar prices regularly. If Pepe Jr.'s prices are high (which I agree they are), it may
have more to do with his father than Paco. His prices have been this high for a while now.
Also, it is important to note that he has had many opportunities to examine some very fine
instruments since his father, uncles, and cousins are all players and collectors. And, he probably
makes a hell of a good guitar. Paco wouldn't buy the guitar if he didn't think it was a great
Instrument.

people pay what the market will bear and the seller puts on a high price tag and no one buys....

Paco plays on Cedar top with reversed bracing . . . . that would be interesting to hear.

I must say that I don´t really care about which guitar Paco bought somewhere... neither what guitar he plays. He used to play negras a lot..and I must say...the sound pretty much sucked very often.

Maybe he bought it as a souvenir for his latest trip to California. Much nicer than t-shirts.

Paco is somewhat of a collector as per that video of his guitar cabinet. Tomatito too. In the end these guys always use the same guitar live for a reason. Regarding classical of pepe jr...I hear the first incarnations of this guitar build used by dad were not so great, but now adays sounding VERY good.

Actually, this is the same guitar featured in another post here, the one entitled 'Pepe Romero Jnr's flamenco bracing.

i wonder if a certain alleged professor in canada will have his "spanish" guitar company make guitars with the reverse strutting pattern? said alleged professor must be really bumming that paco bought the guitar without being hounded and stalked.

That about sums up my thoughts...

I guess Paco got the email which featured this guitar on Sunday morning just like all of us, and he decided to pull the trigger... Its crazy how many guitars Paco has bought from GSI, and how few I have bought from them.

Paco is a collector, and it seems every odd flamenco GSI posts, Paco buys one. The difference in him and lots of us, is he can afford to keep the guitars he buys. :)

Okay, so the whole story is out now. Paco didn't buy this guitar from GSI I guess. Here's the video which shows the guitar...

I noticed that Pepe didn't use the word "buy, or bought" for what ever that's worth.

I'm glad they posted a video of the guitar and of Pepe explaining his philosophy that "you should be able to play some classical on a flamenco, and some flamenco on a classical". There seems to be that school of thought, and the school that I belong to which believes that classical and flamenco guitars are two completely different instruments, and each is only good for one thing. Listen to the guitar and make up your own mind, who knows, it may be just the one for you...

Well one thing for sure...
It wouldn't make me sound like Paco!

He doesn't sound like Paco either.

I wonder if the player has any input in this stuff?

cheers,

Ron

PS Paco probably bought a pack of Marlboro on the same day too.

Keith, that's half of my point. In this case though, 1 and 1 don't quite make 2 somehow.

Last Sunday morning I got the GSI email which advertised this guitar as beeing for sale, (that's part 1 of the story.) Now this week GSI sends out an email with a link to this video. Pepe is pretty clear that Paco played the guitar when he was in L.A, (that was almost 3 months ago), and that Paco wanted the guitar. He also says that his father was/ is supposed to deliver the guitar to Paco. So which is it? If Paco played the guitar and said he wanted it why was it put up for sale at GSI? Perhaps GSI was running the whole thing as a teaser? Nothing wrong with that I guess, but anyone who reads the emails from last week and this week and watches the video will probably be left in a state of wondering just like I am...

Addressing the guitar its self: I think its great they did this video, it has given those who were curious about the reverse bracing an opportunity to hear what can be done with it. No question that the guitar sounds good! To me it does at least. This don't mean that its the sound I would try to buy, but that don't mean that I don't think it sounds good.

shawn, i thought something was odd about the g.s.i. listing but figured i would keep my x-files conspiracy thoughts in check. if paco played this guitar 3 months ago, or even 3 weeks ago, and bought, it it does seem interesting that g.s.i. would post it for sale even though it had been purchased. i wonder if someone wanted to jump on it on monday what would g.s.i. have done. deny it to paco? give some bogus reason for a delay? some configuration of the above?

That is the looming question which will never be answered my friend...

Now that I have went back and looked at everything again, I see that they are offering that you can order the same model from them, even with different specks. And they have quotes from Paco about the guitar already.

I knew the guitar would have to have been hand delivered, because any time I have ordered from GSI its taken as much as 2 weeks for delivery. That's something when you think about the fact that they are just a few hours down the road from me. I get stuff from L.A all the time, and it always comes next day... I'm sure that Paco's order would take priority over mine though, and rightfully so! From L.A to Spain in less than a week, or from L.A to Vegas in 2 weeks... Hmm???

I'm also glad to hear that Paco "thinks the guitar tunes good." That's always a big concern when when your looking at $7000 guitars. :)
