I need a flamenco guitar

Hey people,

As you know, I've moved to Nashville from Beirut, and I was unable to get my guitar with me. It's been 30 days now since I've touched a guitar, and I feel like I really need to get one (even if I only have few minutes daily to play it).

Here's the deal - I just moved here, and I still have no idea how my financial situation and expenses will be. I have a bit of money to make sure all goes smoothly until I start receiving my salary and get more financially stable. However, this is not going to be a matter of days or a week or two before I figure out what/if I can save at the end of each month, and I really do not want to drag the issue of getting a flamenco guitar. I feel the more I try to wait, the higher the chances I'll get more busy and perhaps get swept by the work current away from daily or at least weekly guitar practice. (To get an idea, I am doing 80+ hours of work a week).

Once I am financially stable and more settled in and relaxed (in the coming year or two), I plan to invest in a guitar around the $2000 - $3000 range. Therefore, I do not want to spend more than a maximum of $500 (including shipping) on a FLAMENCO guitar at the moment. If anyone has anything they are willing to let go at that price, please let me know. If nobody comes up with anything to help me out, I might just end up biting the bullet and going for that $240 Antonio Hermosa AH-15 (and rigging it to become as flamenco as possible) to weather the storm until I buy a decent instrument as described above.

Cheers mates!

Ramzi, welcome to the land where McDonalds and Walmart came from. If all else fails, you can log on to Amazon.com and have this in a few days:

http://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-CG172SF-String-Flamenco-Guitar/dp/B004MDKTIY

You could do worse.

RE: I need a flamenco guitar (in reply to Miguel de Maria

Hey Miguel,

The CG172SF (newer model Yamaha flamenco) does not work for me. It has a satin/matte finish, and the suction cups in the guitar support I use will not adhere well to a non-glossy finish. I find myself always adjusting where I attach the suction cups to the body of the guitar, and I don't like the idea of getting those "Kling-on" things they sell over at StringsByMail not just because of the multiple locations on the side of the guitar where I attach the suction cups of the support (depending on the position of the guitar I want to achieve), but rather also because I think the "Kling-on" things themselves also won't adhere to the satin/matte finish.

If I can find a new or used CG171SF (older model Yamaha flamenco with the glossy finish) for a maximal price of $350 (including shipping), I'll be interested. But I can't find any of those older models online anymore except for one on eBay where the seller is asking for too much probably because they think it being discontinued now means they can charge more for it.

Cheers!

Interesting. Let me ask around if anyone has one of those old ones for sale.

By the way, if you are only going to play a limited amount, maybe the back issue will not be a big deal?

It probably will because I've been doing a lot of sitting and not enough exercise due to the nature of work. But in case of dire straits, I'll look into what you're thinking about.

Dave - Jerry looks like he's going to be expensive. I'll call him though. Thanks!

Hi,
please see this guitar:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/FROM-FRANCE-ALL-SOLID-J-MARCARIO-FLAMENCO-GUITAR-CONCERT-MODEL-145F-/280896604011?pt=Guitar&hash=item4166be076b

This seller used to sell an identical looking guitar with laminated sides & back
for $350.00 other specs are the same
I got one to keep on my boat, but it is still sitting around the the house.
The guitar sounds surprisingly good for the price. action is lowered to 2mm
so you may want to raise it a bit- little too much buzz

I would be willing to let it go for $200.00 + shipping with a slightly flawed new hard case

I wonder if there's a Foro member in the Nashville area who might consider loaning you a 'practice' guitar for a while?

Or a friendly music store might rent you one if available? (Although, being in the Nashville area, its more likely to be a Martin jumbo or a Gibson banjo. . . )

Too bad you didn't end up in the Toronto area. The 12th Fret usually has a good selection of used guitars at reasonable prices. (Unfortunately their website only features the high-end models. There are usually several low-end models in the racks. . .)

Welcome to the good old U.S. of A. ( and 80 hours a week??? Jesus!).

Good luck, amigo.

I seem to have a hazy recollection of those being popular with ladies (in the 50s or 60s) for "breast size enhancement in the privacy of your own home".

cheers,

Ron

Nah Jimi,

No need for medical intervention.

A quick search showed me that they are still available, but are advertised for use by MEN as well!

Ole y amen to that!

Ramzi, you're in Nashville man, forget flamenco for now, just buy a Tele.

(No suction cups or other kinky devices required).

Maybe, Ramzi can learn how to flamenco on a Tele and revolutionize a REAL Nuevo FLAMENCO STYLE, plug that Tele through a nice Twin Reverb Fender, Hew Haw! Flamenco with a twang

Thanks everyone for the concrete suggestions and the funny comments. I'm going to think about this for a bit and hopefully figure something out. If anyone has other suggestions, please let me know...

Cheers!
