Graves disease

During the last months i had many problems:
Basically 90% of the issues described in section "symptoms" of this article.
So i went to doctor and they made a thyroid diagnosis and found out that i have this

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graves_disease

I will get medication and if it doesn't get better, i will have to do this radioactive treatment or an operation and remove the Thyroid. Then i have to use medication my whole life.

Anyone heard about this disease?

My eyes are getting bigger and my eyelids are swollen since months.

I am really scared that in few years i will look like the woman shown in the article.

It's not a cause for serious alarm. If you receive the treatment or undergo radioactive ablation / surgery, you should get much better. Get well soon!

Hi Arash,

These medical pictures usually show you only extreme cases.
You heard what Ramzi said and he's a Doc.
Good luck with the treatment anyway Arash and try to stay positive.

cheers,

Ron

arash--bummer about having the condition. i see you live in germany so you have first class medical care available which is great. try not to get to wrapped up in the on-line medical info as it is easy to put yourself in the worse case scenario position. i wish you the best and as it often noted, having a great outlook on like, such as being a flamenco, can dramatically improve your recovery.

Sorry to hear this, Arash, and I hope you get better soon. Try not to worry about it too much. As long as you're doing something about the problem (the treatment), worrying all the time will only make it worse.

So if you do nothing about it worrying will make it better? That would be cool.

(sorry guys)

Get well soon Arash.
At least there are effective treatments, once you're sure about what the problem is you can fight it.

Very sorry to hear about that. I wish you the best. Go on with life and enjoy things you like. We never know whats around the next corner. To worry is part of life and even more its part of a dissease. So learn to live with that.

Arash,

I have checked with a couple of medical friends, and they echo Ramzi. Apparently, threatment will cure the problem. In my (admittedly unprofessional) opinion, the best course of action would be to undergo the treatment prescribed and maintain a positive attitude. All the evidence suggests you will be fine.

Cheers,

Bill

Arash, I'm sorry to hear that - I can imagine that it's very scary, but it sounds like they know what to do and you will be fine. Meanwhile, keep playing.
Alles Gute!

Sorry to hear that Arash, I hope you will get better fast.

I have heard of it, for quite some time I also had troubles with the thyroid gland, I have hypothyroidism, wich is sort of the reverse I guess, my doctor said it could happen because I take lithium.

The good thing about all these things is that today is that modern medicine is very good and you will be able to live healthy

I wish you the best Arash!

Have faith in your Doctors Arash and faith that everything will work out in the end. The stress you are having will do more harm than good. Do not stress over things you cannot control. I am confident that you will get this under control.

RE: Graves disease (in reply to Arash

I have been experiencing a lot of similar symptoms over the past months (hot flashes, getting irritated/anxious extremely easily, constantly tired) but my blood results came up fine...honestly, I would have preferred to suffer from this or a similar thyroid disease simply for the reason that I then could have it easily treated...now I am still in the dark about it, nobody has an idea what it might be and I have to keep going to doctors, trying to find something...

Hey Arash,

I'm sorry to hear about your condition. Hopefully it will all end soon and you can look back and think about it as yet another challenge life threw at you.

I wish you a speedy and complete recovery.
