Paco Pena Workshop in Manchester

Paco Pena held a workshop at the Band On The Wall in Manchester, UK, yesterday morning for over 2 hours.

21 guitarists attended and Louis, who ended up being the only one to play solo for him, certainly enjoyed it and was given some sage advice about his technique

If you are going to swear in a language that is not your own try to make an effort ....
cajones would be drawers like in a desk , , from Caja = Box.
However cOjones , would be the vulgar term for Testicals . ....

But yes well done Louis ...very good ....

Well done Louis, you played for an impressively long time too.

I got through one falsetta in front of him and that was enough for me in a cold room with no warming up.

It was hard to lean very much from such a large workshop.

The main advice that Paco gave that applied to everyone was respect the timing.

Its obvious, but we spent along time just clapping the Solea and Paco would shout every time anyone was very slightly ahead of the beat. Which actually it seemed most of us very were. 'Don't rush", he shouted.

The other thing he empasised was right hand position. Keeping it in a place where you don't need to move it much, wrist flexibility etc etc. But that probably isn't new to anyone here.

It made me remember to keep things simple and clear and let everything else develop from that. I knew that anyway but its always good to reaffirm the important things.

After the basics and some falsettas we did a big group solea and tangos with singing and dancing. That was great.

Yes he did chastise Louis for "taking liberties with the compas"

What was really good to see was such a large number of players in the North of England

I understand Louis is now 15 years old, right Graham? What I still cannot fathom is why you continue to post on his behalf here much more often than he does on his own behalf. Just curious...

Cheers mate!

Hi Ramzi

I have a psychiatric condition - I'm a pushy Dad

Seriously, though, if you ever met Louis you would find a pleasant and very, very quiet young man who really struggles to engage with people he doesn't know well, even on-line - the term introvert doesn't come close to describing him.

He also thinks that what he does wouldn't interest anyone else so he'll never willingly tell anyone about it - so I do

And yet he'll perform in front of hundreds of people without batting an eyelid...

I see, Graham. Well kudos to you and Louis - you for being an encouraging dad, and Louis for being a great, young guitarist.
