Nope they're definitely not Russian, half as thick with washed out colours, must be from Asia. You get what you pay for

Shawn,
the brazilian rosewood back that he put on the shelf as you can see from the picture, That was actually mine for my classical guitar. he told me he messed up during the construction so he abandoned the choice of my wood and replace me with another one. i think he messed up with the side wood .

Hey Erictjie, we share some of the same tastes in rosettes, that black and white one was high on my list as well... I must ask you, have you already started thinking of what kind of guitar you are going to get after this one? Maybe a cedar blanca from Salvador? Your going to have quite a collection of guitars from him!

I just saw on Face Book that his nephew just finished his 1st guitar. I think he has been working as a helper in Salvador's shop for a while. He's even using Salvador's headstock design. I'm tempted to see how much he is charging for guitars... I know Salvador is guiding him through the building process, so his guitars would probably be pretty good right off the bat. It kills me to know some of these guys who bought Salvador's instruments for $800 back in the day, I wish I had come across him sooner... It seems like his nephew is ready to carry the Castillo name into the future...

when his guitar was $800 , it was not his own bracing design and not as loud as now . With this flamed Koa blanca i will totally have 4 guitars from him. I think there is something about his blanca that make me crazy about his guitars.
i supposed to order a cedar top red blanca now, but i can't resist flamed koa blanca.

Hey Eric, I just checked his page, and he hasn't set up a direct link for himself, so you'll have to find him through the search feature. Or you can look through my friends list and find him that way. My page is:
www.facebook.com/shawnbrockmusic

It may be easiest to find him through the search though. Also I can't find the "fan page" for his guitars anymore. Don't know what's up with that... I have noticed that his site hasn't been updated lately as well. I don't know if he and Beau Bledsoe aren't working together anymore, or what...

"a red cedar blanca", that's what my other guitar from Salvador is... Somewhere there's a video of him playing mine... I was always more of a spruce guy, but he makes a heck of a cedar blanca... Still, I need to get a spruce blanca that will make me happy. That may mean that I have to let go of my cedar blanca, I don't know yet... Its a hell of a guitar, and I would be better off in the end to just keep it and order a spruce blanca... Sorry I couldn't find the face book link, must have done something wrong...

She is now complete and soon will be on her way to me! Salvador completed
the setup this morning. He says that already the guitar has great volume
and is brilliant and thinks I'll love it! Not that I would expect him to
think/ talk differently...

According to DHL it only takes 2 days for shipping from Paracho to Las
Vegas, so hopefully it will be soon... I don't see the travel and customs
inspection only taking 2 days, but what do I know... Maybe I'll get lucky
for a change...

After I have her for a few days I plan to do some audio comparisons of this
Castillo negra, (number 399) and my Castillo blanca, (number 239), and
upload the sound file to the foro. I'm also going to write a review on the
different Castillos I have played for those who may be interested... So
many times blanket statements are made about a luthier, but people don't
comment on any particular model that the maker builds.

I'm getting pumped up now! Saludos!!

No rb, it's the Palo Escrito shown in the OP in this thread (check the grain).
It looks really good now that it's finished and I'm sure Shawn will love it.
Best of luck with it Shawn.

Hey all, yes the wood is palo escrito as Turner said.

She got here yesterday and all I have done is play! At this point my fingers are useless and are starting to feel like jelly from all of the playing... Right out of the box she gives my 4-year-old Castillo blanca a run for its money. I'm afraid to hear her after she gets played in... As is she's just as loud as my blanca... I have to say that I didn't expect that. Also the 660 has caused no problems, I have even gotten used to it. Now my 650 blanca feels a little small... Makes me think Ricardo may have been right some time back when he said, "650 is for girls." LOL

My only disappointment thus far has been the pegs, (see my thread "the different styles of PegHeds for more on this). I'm pretty used to guitars with pegs, but it seems these could have been fitted better. I wanted Planetary pegs in the first place, so I think that's the direction I will go. All in all I'm happy as a pig in slop with this guitar!
