Collusion

Just been running a free Firefox add-on called "Collusion" which shows you graphically how you are being tracked as you move from site to site and which ones are cookie sharing.

It seems most sites report your presence to "DoubleClick"(owned by Google) so they must have a huge amount of data on your browsing interests.

Interesting that ISPs and Financial institutions, Banks etc report to them too, so your complete personal ID (name, address, tel no. etc) is traceable theoretically, plus any other details you wish to supply to Facebook, YouTube (owned by Google) etc etc.

Been using it for just over 24hrs now and am intrigued by all the cookie derived collusion thats going on in the background!

Hey Ron,

No surprises there. The question i ask myself is, Once all this information is gathered, I wonder what it will show about humanity collectively? I wonder if it will show anything we don't already know?

I dont get the fuss about data worries. We want services to be fast and custom tailored. In that the information about us we leave on the net just helps to get it done. The only thing i dont like is when this data is used for other purposes, ie selling, or spying. But still, the secret agencies probably can spy you any second anyway and then you are more worried about some banks getting your phone number???

I'm sure nobody is interested in you personally, but rather your interests etc for the sake of targeted advertising.

My daughter persuaded me to join FB so I could keep some sort of contact with her as she seems to always keep her mobile switched off.
I did so and use it just passively.

Since they ask your date of birth when you sign up, I have to laugh at all the adverts presented to me now for incontinence pants and pads, cathaters, colostomy bags and zimmers etc.

Sh*t...I'm 62, not 82!! Gimme a break here! LOL

On the more serious "big brother" issue, with all this tracking and cookie exchanges it seems it would present no problem for any Authority, State or Government agency (armed with a court order) to personally identify you and all your personal info very quickly.

Targeted advertisement should be your least concern^^. Imagine a guy applying for a loan or a job or an insurance, and not getting it because of whatever personal reasons available because personal data that has been collected about him (sickness, political mindset, homosexuality, etc).

With regards to executive authorities, I think they can just call the ISP and gain access to your computer just like you do (delete & save files). Dont think they go through the hassle of evaluating cookies.

Facebook, I only joined one year ago. I should have done it earlier. But you are right in one point and i was shocked about it, that they knew whom i knew. On my first login I got proposed new possible friends and most of the people i DID know personally, yet i never told facebook about it. I came to the conclusion that they take the contacts information from your email account, ie. all the people you had contact with and finds them on facebook. Bad side about is they never asked me to synch the contacts from my email, good side is it was a very convenient feature though.

I guess you could hide the bags inside the guitar, makes perfect sense.

It will probably show a totally disconnected common sense, that won´t realize what the planet is turning to before very essentials hit the door step.
Yet, the services might not survey this.
According to the last article I read on this, all the countless US services engaged with tracking electronic communication ended up gathering such a sheer data mass that they have basically lost track.
Maybe of the few things they still master there is industrial spying. That´s at least what they used to prevail with some ~ 15 years ago. Fetching pre patented scripts and distributing them to national combines.
The other object certainly nailed are lefties. Only a dead Indian is a good Indian, as usual.

What commercial tailoring is concerned, progress in comparison appears surprisingly lame.
Sure, when I just searched for a luthier, there will pop up guitar ads. After looking for audio gear, there´ll be consumer headphones ´n stuff, after researching on Malaysia there will be touristic offers and after a camera research I will encounter ads on photo gear.
But seeing all the unrelated ads, efficiency can´t be too far from the indiscriminate targetting Ron is experiencing.

You´re killing me.

Thank you, Deniz, for giving me an idea for how come that I once received an e-mail from facebook (which I never had anything to do with, and likely never will ) inviting me to meet personal friends on their website.
Inquiries showed that listed friends hadn´t mentioned me / my e-mail anywhere on FB, which again left me a bit puzzled.
So, the info could be taken from e-mail accounts, hmmm ... Alienating to say the least. Wouldn´t that equal hacking?

BTW, you seem not to realize what total transparency means. At the latest when a person might be lesser appreciated by either instances or even just averse individuals with access to the wrong network.

And perfect tracking means impossibility of revolution / peoples´resistance, all options to regimes.
No small causa at all.

They probably got your info from your friends who did allow them to access their contact list.
