Hi Anders,

What camera do you use? Your photos come out great! I had a Nikon D5100, which is a great camera for the price. It ain't cheap, but its sensor is very very good which sort of makes it a bargain....kinda

Thanks for sharing Anders, I enjoyed looking at those. Good quality pics as well.

I love the white rendered walls of Andalucia. They make a cool backdrop for a flamenco guitar making workshop.

Just out of curiosity, Do you get many local guitarists around Huelva playing your guitars these days?

RE: Photos of me in the workshop (in reply to Anders Eliasson

Hi.
Yes, I sure love what I do. Especially these days where my wife is getting worse every day, my workshop is my microkosmos. When I go in there, its like turning a switch. Back into enjoy mode. Lately I´ve really learnt to appreciate what I do and its very noticable on my guitars. The last year and a half I´ve been able to raise the quality of my guitars a good deal, and I´m almost where I want to be. .

The camera is an Olympus 450. It makes very good pictures when you learn to use it and get used to its view finder.

I have a few guitars around here. Spain is in a very deep economical crisis. 25% unemployment (higher in Andalucia) and 50% unemployment for people under 25 years (Andalucia is higher) Besides, Andalucians dont like paying and especially when you´re a foreigner, they try to get the guitar half price. I tell them to go and visit someone else and stop wasting my time. They can be pretty annoying so I prefer to export.

RE: Photos of me in the workshop (in reply to Anders Eliasson

I've always wondered how things could be if i decide one day to move to Spain just to breathe Andalusian air everyday and be a part of what i love most which is flamenco. To gain a new language, learn about a new culture and enjoy all that. My teacher was working in a Pizzeria in Jerez just to be able to pay his expenses and he came back to Italy saying that it is really critical in there.

I met a very nice lady from Jerez who told me to let go the idea as it is not the best period for Spain in General. She laughed telling me that the City hall of Jerez did not pay the electricity bill and they remained with no lights for a while and i remained with my jaw open in wonder how this is possible!

It is really harsh to start from the beginning in a new land especially if there are no real friends around even if there is a stable job but also people change. Few days ago i called a friend of mine who lives in Bergen, Norway and he was so happy to with my call telling me that sometimes with the rush movement and family he stares sometimes to his cell wondering why it is not ringing anymore like before?! I believe that even if we travel and struggle, the most beautiful and worm place on earth is always our real Homeland that's where we go back at last.. What do you guys think?

Anders , I always like to see photos from your workshop , they always inspire me.

Tom , i personally won't be able to answer this cause under strange circumstances I am a person who don't have a homeland nor a place I can call "home".

Among my several crazy ideas (like being a bush-man in Australia) I had the idea of moving to Spain and opening a guitar workshop (well , I guess many guitar players have such fantasies )

Sorry if I go abit off topic, but how hard is it to get a living/working permission (I mean for life , not for a year or two) to people who don't have a European visa (but soon will have a b.s degree) (Ye ,I know , I could check it on the net , but there is much bureaucracy there and I'm interested to hear people from "the field")

Weal,
there is much truth in your words! ...
Twentyfive years ago I tried to live in the U.S. but was stronger than me ......I chose to return to my land.
It is true that sometimes the job or an idea can move use beyond the oceans and that the "homeland" is always where one "finds himself", but .....nothing and no one will ever change the fact that the heart still belongs to the land of the forefathers.

ciao, :-)

Funny how these photos made people think of their homeland.
I´ve lived here in Andalucia for a long time now and I miss my homeland and some day I´ll go and live there.

Holly words Giamma In Italy everything is unique

@Adres: Funny it is. I read your comment about Andalusians and how they don't like paying especially when you are a foreigner. This made me think of how things are less complicated when we live/deal with our own mother tongue language on our land. Such a unique sensation.

So, just a final one. I´m not on the photo, so its kind of off topic. I really enjoy entering my workshop in the morning. This orange light has a very relaxing effect on me and it changes all the time. It makes me enter the workshop and kind of forget what is outside the door. A little bit of music helps as well. But this is direct and require no action from me.

RE: Photos of me in the workshop (in reply to Anders Eliasson

I love the one with the morning light. Man, there is a lot of poetry in the things you do.

I'm still struggling with an injury, so I almost only play the guitar when there's a gig. This means I build up a thirst or hunger for playing.. and when I finally do pick up and play the guitar it becomes a treasured experience. I'm always taken by the feel and sound of my guitar. I loose myself in it and that helps me perform decently even though I can't practice nearly as much as I would need to. I also forget the discomfort of my injury.

I had the swedish grand lady of flamenco try the guitar. She's the true pioneer of flamenco guitar here in Sweden. She studied for Justo the Badajoz, who studied for Ramon Montoya and she plays some really really fine flamenco guitars. She was intrigued by the sound port and liked the guitar a lot, the tone and playability. She played some old style solea on it, and it sounded beautiful. For me, that was a special moment. Just want to pass it on.

Hi MrMagenta

That was a fine story. What is the name of this grand old lady. Not many of those in flamenco scenery. Did you try any of her guitars?

Be carefull with injury. Take your time. I´m really sorry that you have to go through this and I hope that you find a way out as soon as possible.

RE: Photos of me in the workshop (in reply to Anders Eliasson

Her name is Eva Noré, previously Möller. A fantastic person, with tons of interesting stories. I wish I had a nice sample of her playing I could share. I need to learn many things from her.

I briefly tried her Arcangel Fernandez, made for her probably in the 60ies. It felt very together and transparent. Beautiful tone. Though much weaker in power than my guitar. It's a short scale instrument, comfortable setup and a very controlled feel and response to rasgueado.. it felt quite smooth. But I didn't have a lot of time with it so these are just quick impressions. Deeper body shape than my guitar. Extremely light.

One thing I love about my guitar is that it gives me dynamic range. There's an extra gear to it. I don't know if I could get that with a quieter guitar.

I'm very curious about how your new guitars are developing. I really want to check one out if there will be an opportunity sometime

RE: Photos of me in the workshop (in reply to mrMagenta

So your guitar has a lot more power than an Archangel Fernandez... Not bad at all.
The best I know with powerfull instruments, is that I play more relaxed and I dont need to push the guitar to make it sing. I dont know how your guitar reacts, but the one I play the most (87) has this extra gear you talk about and as a bonus it gets dryer sounding when you put it in that gear. Dryer and a better separation. This really turns me on.
