Speaking of playing and singing, I'm wondering if anybody has some good examples/suggestions for flamenco songs that would allow me to self-accompany. Basically, I'm looking for examples of people playing and singing (at the same time).

Not that I'm a great singer...but I'm also not a great player! My wife, however, is a really good dancer. So it would be good to build a library of songs that I could play and sing while she dances.

We've already got a fun little version of Como El Agua worked up...also a tientos we learned in Spain last year. What are some good, simple songs where you might typically see a 2nd guitarist who is playing chords and singing with an occasional falseta thrown in?

Might cross-post this also in the thread with the two kids, since that's what made me think of it.

Those are great suggestions.

I've been playing guitar for about 20 years, and I'm definitely no stranger to playing and singing. I've done that in rock bands and I've also done plenty of bluegrass/traditional gigs in a variety of venues that involve playing and singing--largely solo and always acoutic. It's just hard to find many examples in flamenco. I've seen a couple of two guitars/one vocal shows...one in Istanbul where the guys were really awesome. The second guitar sang like Camaron!

I've only been PLAYING flamenco for about 18 months, though, so I have a lot of playing progress to make. I've got a great teacher, which helps. But I'd really like to get 3-5 songs under my belt that will be easier to learn/perform just for right now.

Would love any suggestions!!!

seriously you think you can do flamenco singing now cuz you did rock? I know the guys in Istanbul, they are friends. He use and autotuning voice harmonizer box. They are good though and have a huge repertoire....but that is NOT flamenco singing sorry bud.

Might want to take some time to seriously listen to cante first before jumpin into the whole playing guitar PLUS singing thing.
