Manolo Sanlúcar’s autobiography

Anyone read El Alma Compartida?

I searched for comments here but couldn’t seem to find any…

I began reading it a while back, maybe 4 months ago and I had to let go because I had too many things to do.
I think I might have gotten to chapter 2, maybe 3.
All I remember is that it is a very difficult read in terms of Spanish level you require, and I found that it was also written in an 'artistic' way which again did not help the read. At the time I thought it was too artistic for my taste but I am still very interested in reading it. I consider myself a descent reader in Spanish, but this, I will have to take up again when I have way more time.

You unnerve me. I’ve found that there is a style that seems to be characteristically Spanish (though fortunately it’s not universal) insofar as there seems to no anglophone equivalent; and that consists of much expostulation and little information (with no index). I hope this isn’t the style you’re referring to.

I don't want to say anything bad about this book as I have not read enough of it. You described it well, the sentences could be shorter or expressed more simply.
I just took the book out again and read here and there in different chapters and some parts are not that bad, others, I have a hard time understanding. But I don't think it is only because of my somewhat limited vocabulary, it is also the sentences. I have read over 30 books in Spanish and this one is a major challenge for me. Just with this spot check, I get blocked often, more than once a page. For me this read will also be a language learning exercise.

You actually reminded me of this book and today I asked someone at work to spend 1/2 an hour with me from time to time to go through it.

I am still very interested in reading it and from the 'spot reads' I have done, I see that it will be interesting from a cultural point of view as he described his youth.

The following is part of the intro that originally made me think 'oh-ho...' and in this part, it is not the vocabulary that made me go 'oh ho' it was the 'tone/style'. But the book is not all like this.

Al disponerme a escribir, no se si estoy huyendo o voy a mi reencuentro. Lo que se ha roto en mi alma es tan grande que nada en mi puede quedar intacto. !Como verme en la guitarra tal cual era? !Como estar con quien tanto me dio sin desdenarla? ?Acaso no ha de dolerme el gozo con que me preno, ahora que solo quiero mi amargura? ?Escribir, es volver conmigo o vengarme de quien soy? !Estar perdido es el mejor estado, porque aqui, todo el dolor se amansa! Solo la confusion me alienta la mirada a otro sentir, a este sentir recuperado y, por primera vez, verle por fin la espalda a donde siempre estuve.

Wow, I see what you mean. Presumably, when you get further along, you find out what’s bent him out of shape.

It might have to do with the loss of his son, not sure where he will go with this but for an intro, I had no clue where he was heading with not knowing who he is and discovering himself has he writes the book...
I'll get back when I have read the first 3 chapters... in 6 months.

By the way, I remember thinking at the time that reading this, for me, would just be as difficult as learning flamenco.... very complex these flamencos ;)
