Secret of picado...

Hy all...
what is the secret of great picado? i mean it's not quite appoyando like in classical guitar...
I don't seem to manage that "mettalic" feeling or that shortness of eacj note....
How should i practice it ? Thank you

Far too many places to start with this one....

The best advice given to me was to think of it as pushing into the sound board more than just plucking the string and resting on the adjacent one. Hand positioning is up for debate so try several positions and find what works best for you. Also, many people will tell you to play closer to the bridge. The guitar's set up itself is also a factor since lower action and string height over the sound board will also affect both the sound and the technique.

There's so much more to it than that and there are many on this forum far better qualified to get into an explanation. I'll step aside....

Right hand staccato. Alternate your fingers, plant early to cut off the sound w/ the next finger to play. That is the "shortness" of sound. This trains you to not move too much, but prepare quickly. Speed comes from rhythmic control. Practice w/ a metronome.
