Strings-By-Mail a great place to do ...

Would just like to comment on the FAAAAAST service I recently received from www.stringsbymail.com. On the 19th of July I placed my first order with them- 2 different packs of strings... which I received on the 21st; then on the 21st, I placed an order with them for the Jose Manuel Montoya "Flamenco Guitar in 48 Lessons" DVD set- and received these on the 23rd of July! They're in Michigan- and I'm in Florida, so it's not like they're just next door. 2 day service twice in a row is as good as I could expect.
You can be sure I'll check with them next time I need some musical supplies!

I second that. I had ordered a triple bass set of LaBella strings a few months back and the low E's had some discoloration so I contacted SBM and they sent me new E's and envelope to return the old strings. No questions asked and very quick turn around.

I was surprised that these strings had any issues as i've used LaBella's for a few years and never had any problems until this last batch. The string had several dark discolorations along its length which didn't seem to affect the performance but didn't look real good.

No complaints with SBM and they have been my go to string supplier for over 5 years and will continue to be in the future.

They are a great company... fast and reliable service!
Living in Mauritius I could not order directly from their website so I sent them an email which was replied t on the same day saying that they had programmed the website to accept credit card from Mauritius... and that I was their only client from there!
Anyways, I can now order strings from them and have been very happy with the service and the wide choice they have.

I also recommend them, very quick to the UK. Sometimes only 4 days.

I've always had good experiences with SBM. I especially like the fact that you can order individual strings (--I always wear-out the D-string twice as fast as the others).

I have been dealing with SBM since Richard Cyr started the company over 10 years ago. Richard sold the company and I believe they have gone through another set of owners since then (or at least the contact folks are different). They have been consistent over the years--excellent products, excellent prices and excellent service. In 2004 Richard took a gamble on my cejillas I make, 21st Century Cejillas, and I have been selling them through SBM ever since--closing on 400 sold. They epitomize how a business should operate.

Nice story Keith! I'll have a look into the cejillas next time I order something... I just received my last order... 15 days which is very fast considering where I live. Ordered 3 sets of Savarez Tomatito strings to try on my Blackshear 'Reyes'... will post a review in the relevant section.

avimuno-- I just googled Mauritius--never heard of the country before my google. I can see why it may take a set of strings to take so long to go from Michigan, USA to your country. It appears your country is a few islands--is this correct? Wiki says 1.2 million people in an area of 787 square miles. Do most folks live in a city or out in the country? I would imagine not many guitar players there. Are you originally from Mauritius or putting in some time there?

Hey Keith!

Mauritius is pretty far indeed from the States! lol
I was born and live in Mauritius but I have also lived a number of years abroad for my studies, mostly in England and Canada. And I will be on the move again soon to go finish my PhD in Paris.

There are quite a few people playing guitar here, mostly classical, blues, rock and jazz... in fact there are some pretty good musicians. I think that I'm the only flamenco guitarist. I discovered flamenco in Canada about 5 years ago. I was studying philosophy and music... originally I was in the jazz program of the university but as soon as I discovered flamenco, I switched to the world music program in order to take as much flamenco as I could. I have also taken lessons from Miguel de la Bastide who has really ignited the flame of flamenco in me... I have since sold all my electric guitars and amps such is my dedication! lol

Mauritius is a nice place to live... it's a small tropical island. Technically it's an archipelago but the main island is the most populated, together with another island name Rodrigues. On the main island, named Mauritius, people are scattered in between the cities in the center of the island and the beaches along the coast. I live by the beach in a beautiful village called Trou aux Biches.
It's a nice place to live although it does get a bit tiny at times... the trick is to be able to afford to travel from time to time.

If anyone on this forum is ever in Mauritius, please let me know! Would be cool to meet up!

Avi
