It is the filmmaker's equipment of choice.

Check out the Zoom Q3. I rate this very highly for so many reasons.
I have uploaded a few examples on youtube under the name jazzinahat.
You may or may not like the guitar playing but the recordings
are a fair representation of how the different guitars sound.

Thanks Jazzinahat, but i think the sound comes to my ears a little dull. Maybe it's my impression.

I think he's just not using the right settings... I watched some acoustic guitar videos and it sounded great for the price.

I use the zoom h1, I really like it. You can hear a sound clip here http://www.foroflamenco.com/tm.asp?m=167744&appid=0&p=&mpage=1&key=&tmode=&smode=&s=#168906

I'm looking into either getting a Zoom Q3HD (seems perfect to record lessons and gigs) or the big brother of the H1, the H4n... I have tried the H2 and it sounded great and was easy to use!
Considering the price of the H1, I'm sure that it will serve you well... seems like a really good buy.

I'd recommend the Zoom H2 - excellent quality results from such a compact bit of kit.

lol... i hear you, i'm always like that as well

I guess that the best would be to try them before buying. It would depend on your budget, the H4n costs almost 3 times more than the H1; and it would also depend on what you need it for.
The H4n has many recording options and can be quite versatile from what I gather. The H1 on the other hand is more simple to use although it has less versatility than the H4n.

In terms of sound quality, the H4n is definitely better... the condenser mics themselves are better.

RE: Zoom H1 Digital Recorder (in reply to gounaro

Well, actually the Q3HD is a video recorder. The difference between this and a 'normal' standard is that the sound is really good.
It has two condenser mics, like the H4n... here's a link:

http://www.amazon.com/Zoom-Q3HD-Optical-Screen-Gray/dp/B0046KOL14/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1304428611&sr=8-1

It seems, from various reviews i've read, that the actual video quality is not the best, but the sound is killer... which makes it a great tool for musicians... just imagine video recording lessons for yourself or to put online, and actually getting a decent sound.

It's also great to record gigs... but the focus and options are definitely for video recording, not for sound only, which makes it totally different from the H1, H2 or H4n.
