My new CD !!!

Well gang, Senior Phil Jackson mailed me a CD from Spain and I am totally blown away with it! This CD has some of the most beautiful cante I have heard. (and guitar)!!

Being mostly a solo guitar player, I have some, but, not a lot of cante CDs. But this one that Phil mailed me is TOTALLY WONDERFUL!!

The CD is De Andalucia a Colombia, by Cristobal Del Palomar.

If you guys/gals have a chance to get this CD (if you don't have it already), this is a must! So beautiful and full of duende!!

Thanks so much, Phil !! I will be in contact with you soon...

Merle

Merle,
I just found your post. Now I know what Kate was talking about in her post. She seemed to think that I had a CD out!

I thought that you would like this since you seem drawn to Guajias, Colombianas and such. It's definitely not the typical stuff you hear in Jerez (except for the Solea por Bulerias, the Fandango and the Malagueña), although El Carbonero mentioned in the interview that it's quite common in the countryside outside of Jerez.

What do you think of the guitar playing? Remember, this is the guy that "a known guitarist" in Sevilla shook his head in disgust about when his name was mentioned. (Just teasing you Michael Cho )

Anyway, that was pretty quick. I just mailed it last Wednesday or Thursday. I'm glad you like it.

Phil

Hi Phil

I did realise it was not your CD but your teachers. Didn't mean to confuse the issue. I would still like to hear it. I have friend who is compiling a radio show of Ida y Vuelta. I think he would be interested as well.

Kate

Kate,

I'm glad the confusion (if there ever was any) is cleared up. I'm not sure if the CD has been widely distributed or if it's only available from Manuel (El Carbonero). I couldn't find it at Flamenco-World or any place else on the internet. I'll ask him on Monday. Here's a list of the palos: Milonga, Fandangos, Malagueña, Solea por Buleria, Granaina, Petenera, Serrana, and Colombiana. So there's actually 3 true Ida y Vuelta cantes. You don't hear Peterneras and Serranas much nowadays and it's been my experience that Granainas aren't sung much either (at least around here, I'm sure that's not true in Granada). The popularity of certain palos seems to change over time. A singer I know in Jerez sang a Marianas on a local Jerez TV program last week. So, the popularity of some of these cantes may be on the rise at this time.

If you can't find the CD and want one, let me know. I'm also going to talk to Manuel about putting an mp3 sample of one of the songs on his website.

Phil
