I dont know...what did people do ??

instead of paying per month to see naked girls the had to pay with coins per minute ? ...engaged in orgies, went to DISCOTEQUES ? explored a whole range of sexually transmitted diseases, instead of buying cats as pets they had exotic animals like chimps as pets, went on safari trips, wore Hawaiian shirts, joined religious sects, took acid, went to concerts, instead of writing an email fer every stupid thought that came through their head they would call and bother their friends with it? instead of facebooking girls they liked they had to stalk them ?

walked around dressed like pimps ?

Richard,
you look like someone I met few years ago on Kararu liveaboard diving in Raja ampat-indonesia.
I have done over 500 dives mostli in Indonesian , maldives waters , but have not done any last year and this year since i have a baby son.

Hmmm..I've spent time in Java and Bali, never went diving there--never been to the Maldives. I lived in the Marshall Islands for 18 1/2 years, plenty of diving there. Also Fiji, Palau, Kosrae, Pohnpei, Thailand...

In my youth, we dove in caves in Central Texas and northeastern Mexico. Scares me to think about it now.

Umm, you're right. I was a passionate snorkel diver - in the Med. and Maui mostly. I still swim my local pool underwater for some reason. I find it rather liberating.

I ran a 25ft. Chris-Craft in the US, with a bloody great 400 c.u. V8 (6.6 litres) - which would now cost around £700 to fill up in the UK, yikes!

Anders should remember the story of my first pram dinghy build that became a speaker cabinet

Hey! That's still 4-5 stones stronger than me! Maybe even more because I haven't played in a long while! I'll see you there one of these days.

PDL also has a great love of the sea......I wonder why this seems to be a common interest???

For sure it has nothing to do with PDL from my site....more like 1953, the waterflood in Zeeland (SouthWest part of the Netherlands)
My grandfather was a dike-watcher (is it called that way?), and he saw the flood coming, so my grandparents and father loosed their house, as many people did.
Later on, on exactly the same spot where the house was built, they built a viaduct to a small taxi-boat to cross the Westerschelde.

That's another thing that annoys me.

Why do folk have to text, phone or email every single thought they have to their friends?
You walk down the street and every second person has a mobile phone glued to their ear or in front of their eyes. Total madness.

In the past couple of years I don't think I've ever had a 10 minute conversation with anyone without some stupid tune coming from their jacket pocket.

Needless to say, I don't even own one. (thank Christ)

In the old days, if you wanted to tell somebody something, you'd have to sit down and write a bloody letter. So it had to be something reasonably important.

Not just, "Had sausage and eggs for breakfast and am now sitting on the lav.."

WTF?

cheers,

Ron

hehe Ron that annoys me too...most of all annoys me that people have so much to talk about...i hardly ever need to call anyone...if i call is just to confirm plans to meet or do something...i cant stand this people that call for no reason..cause it always falls to you to think of things to say so its not awkward

I got a friend whos older then me but is freaking hooked on facebook and the whole thing more than anyone i know...and hes got his son following his footsteps now too...id visit him, we watching a dvd or movie...during the movie the guy have about 10 interruptions on text messages then he has the laptop on his couch next to him and commenting or changing updates on facebook...if he farts and smells a little unusual its on his status update...drives me freaking insane...he dosent do it on purpose but its just rude...why invite me over, i am a guest in his house by his invitation and i feel like when i am there i get the least attantion.. we would get to talk more if i was home on my facebook...

Florian, thats what is called the wonder of the modern comunication society.

It means we never talk to the ones right next to us.

In Spanish bars, its impossible to maintain a conversation for more than half a minute or so. If you want to talk to the guy next to you, you have to go outside and call him on the cell phone. pretty sick.

I just had some bad coffee and a bowl of Raisin Bran.......but still no move toward the lav. Maybe my Douchetooth ear phone technology is interfering with my day.

Back on topic: I like learning about everything in general--how things work--how systems work, etc. The more esoteric the better. I probably have a wider variety of tools than anyone here. I have air tools, automotive tools, a mig welder, an arc welder, several sets of cutting and welding torches, numerous saws--a table saw, a tile (wet) saw, etc.--a dozen drills at least and on and on. I have HVAC tools, my own brewing equipment; have made my own hydraulic lines for my Land Rover as well as some of the equipment to pressure bleed the lines. It's entertaining to figure out how to do these different tasks the first time. After that the thrill is usually gone.

I can perform some of these jobs on a high enough level to make money doing it. I taught myself how to mig weld from some pamphlets and a VHS video that came with the welder and was offered a job at $28/hr after just three hours of practice. Pretty cool--and emotionally and financially rewarding as well. My learning interests are varied as well. A few years ago I completed training in clinical hypnosis and taught physicians, psychologists, social workers, etc., in trance induction and the neuropsychology of trance in an ASCH approved training program at a local university. Learning and understanding is really my first interest and passion.

Lately I've been getting into modding electric guitars and a guy I met on CL paid me to wire five Strats for him. I'm in the process of gathering tools to work on frets on electric guitars. I have files I can modify for this purpose and plan on making a few radius blocks with a router.
