need help with f#m chord progression

i rather quickly need help...we're doing two shows with a dancer/singer in two days and the whole thing will be improvised on the scene, there's little problem with that, but one of the songs she has is a seguiriya that's in F#m - and i have to construct a falseta in a day to fill some gaps...my problem is that i can't come up with anything decent that lands back on F#m and sounds good...anything i do either sounds better in F# major, i can't really steal anything from a taranto and i've never played any minor seguiriyas (the minor 3rd is emphasized so i can't really cheat)...if anyone has any ideas that you're willing to share with me, don't hesitate :)

Is that absolute F#m or which key is the singer in, what's the natural minor?

I would just put the capo where the phrygian is. If it's on the 6th string, play serranas falsetas, if it's on the 5th string, play siguiriyas falsetas.

everything's worked out so i play taranta key on capo 5, the whole mood of the piece is minor, the main chord is 246222 (F#madd9) and i can't find a way, whatever i play to resolve it nicely to this same chord...i mean i can cheat by playing 244000 like i would with a taranto AND it sound fine enough, but the lady wants it to resolve to minor...it doesnt seem possible for me so it seems i'll have to go with cheating...
the rhythm is seguiriya but the harmony is not, so the palo doesn't even matter...all the singing is around F#m and G so at least that doesn't give anything to worry about...but the falseta is supposed to play with the mood for a bit...and then go back...

I might have to hear it to understand what you mean. F#minor is uncomfortable, it seems like you'd have more possibilities moving the capo to 7 playing like in Eminor (Am-G-H7-Em) or moving the capo to 2 playing like in Aminor (Dm-C-E7-Am).

Still you say you play taranto key, which is something else. You could go from Bminor to C#7, becoming the dominant to F#minor. Is that what you mean? F#minor could shift directly to F#7 becoming the dominant to Bminor again.

Not sure I get it.

it's this that i have to reproduce...we listened to it closely with Ramzi and the guy seems to cheat also...and it sounds good, still today the singer said she didn't like what i did :)...anyway, i simply to don't have the time to work out and remember what he's playing here so i'll probably go with the transformed taranto falseta...the falseta starts 3:40-ish...

There's really no problem with it. The phrygian can alway be either a dominant 7 moving up to the minor or it can go up one to the lydian 7th and back down to a minor, just like this guy does. The latter isn't a "trick", it's a very cool and interesting change - I've heard it i.e. in modern Soleares from Vicente Amigo and others. It can sound a bit unresolved as an ending but here I think it's okay. Shew's singing pentatonic, not typical for siguiriyas anyways...

He's just playing with different chords. You can just play arpeggio through the chords F#m7, C#dim, Bm, C#dim, F#7, Bm, Em, F# for part one then Bmin, Em7, D#dim slides to F#dim, Em7, A#dim, Bmin, G7, F#m for part two.

To stay true to the key you can put the capo up to 7, try looking at Granaína falsetas and transposing them rhythmically to siguiriyas. Chords like D7 to G7 then Amin7 over A#dim to B7 played like a bar but leaving the G string open.

Really though, the falseta is yours to choose and play. The guitarist otherwise rarely gets the chance to be creative. If it works but she doesn't like it that's okay, but if she can't sing what she would rather have, give you a recording or play it for you on a guitar that's her tough luck.

Resolving to a minor would be , ..if it were jazz, but it's not , but if it were, the bass line note would follow ex. G#mb5...then C#7b9 to F#m this is a standard minor ...II-V-I or the second chord (dominant V ) could have ex..a b5 substitution to a G9b5 then F#.
But you'd have to kill all those extentions to stop it sounding like you are going to break into a minor swing be-bop ,,,, ....or just jazz it up and go for the Django Rheinhardt effect.....

Good stuff.

I'd still try playing like granaína. If you end on the phrygian B your in the exact right Eminor position you'll need to be in after your falseta.

Glad you like it. It's very straight forward stuff. You'll have to get it into rhythm, though...

Cheers!
