Jose Ramirez FL2

Hello all,

Does anyone have any experience with Jose Ramirez FL2 guitar?
A friend of mine is selling his to buy a better guitar and offered to
sell it to me for a reasonable price.
I don't know much about guitar quality, so I though I'd consult
you guys before I make up my mind. How do you think it compares
to Yamaha 171SF which is almost three times less expensive?
Thanks very much for your input.

Ramin

Ramin,
I have a '75 FL2. Can't say it's a fantastic guitar though...
I travelled a lot with it as a "workhorse" guitar.
It's Ok and well built and has an "old fashioned" woody Flamenco tone.
I kinda kept it as a second guitar until I heard Jim Opfer play some stuff on it and I was amazed as to how it sounds from the listener's viewpoint.
I think it's expensive though...

cheers

Ron

Ron,
wouldn't it be better to get a guitar that sounds good to you, since you don't play too many juergas? :)

Hi Ramin. The newer FL2's are actually pretty good. They are made by Amalio Burguet for Ramirez.

Yeah Mike,
I got it in 1975 in Madrid. I was doing a lot of travelling with my job then and didn't want to take my Ramirez 1a with me.
It seemed a reasonable guitar in comparison with some others I tried (including Conde).
I was only in Madrid for two days and my friend was sick of being dragged round all the guitar shops in the blistering heat, so I just bought it.

cheers

Ron

Man, when I was in Spain, I couldn't find anything... the only time I saw a conde, was in Jose Postigo's shop. I asked him if he could play it, and his stern reply was, "Are you going to play it or buy it?" I didn't actually have $5K in my pocket so...
