Need a Flamenco Guitar, visiting Jer...

Hi all,
I am needing a good flamenco guitar for someone learning flamenco. I am considering buying a Bernal Prodigio. I have been offered one in England for £550, but I am going to Jerez on March 28 until 1 April and wondered if it is worth trying to buy one there from the Bernal shop or the workshop in Cadiz. It would be my first flamenco guitar. Does anyone have any thoughts on this please? How difficult is it to buy one in Jerez, like that? Is there much difference in quality between individual instruments of the same model for instance?

Is it wiser for me to pay the £550 for the one offered to me in England ?
Or is there a better kind of guitar in this sort of price range please?

many thanks
davidj

From all accounts, Anders Eliasson, one of our forum members, makes an excellent instrument. He lives in Granada.

Hi David J

For the money, A Bernal Prodigio is a good value, and I dont think you'll find many better options. And I also like that they are true flamenco guitars with a good flamenco sound. Not so loud, but very correct. I've seen a couple of them and consistency is quite good. Beside, resale value is high.

About money, I can't remember how much now. Take a look at the Bernal website.

good luck
Anders

To Miguel, thanks for your nice words.

Hi Anders,
Many thanks for your respected advice on Bernal's.

I hope I can find a good one.

Email Melchor from this forum. He is a Jerezano and might be able to help.

You can find his profile here http://www.foroflamenco.com/showprofile.asp?memid=57

I got a Bernal Buleria model at the workshop 3 years ago, very good deal. The workshop isn't in Cadiz, however, it's in Algodonales, a 40km or so trip east of Jerez. Cadiz province, not Cadiz city. The advantage to going to the workshop is they have a lot of guitars on hand to try. The retail stores have fewer to choose from.

Veet,
many thanks for the advice. I am just days away now from going there. I'm really looking forward to it. I hope to catch some flamenco shows when I'm there.

best wishes
davidj

Send an email to Jonathan http://www.foroflamenco.com/showprofile.asp?memid=98 or Sean http://www.foroflamenco.com/showprofile.asp?memid=20 on this forum, they are in Cadiz (not far away) and might help you in your quest.

My advice would be simple: don´t go to Jerez, go to Valencia. Visit Ricardo Sanchis Carpio and buy one of his cheaper models. Or tour the other talleres: people call them factories but this seems a misnomer to me.

Then again, I have a cheap Bernal and it is fine for the job. About £450 in the UK should be cheaper at Bernal's.
