Camera porn. So I got a Leica...

... a baby one, designed by Leitz in Germany and made in Japan by Minolta. A beautifully compact 1970s rangefinder. I stuck a new Carl Zeiss lens on the front.

In guitar terms, this is like buying a 1973 Gibson Melody Maker with new and expensive humbuckers. This is a little street machine.

Now my camera purchases must stop (for a while).

YES! That is a beaut.

Let the gear obsession begin!

I just love the look of that 50mm f2.0. How are the ergonomics on that focusing ring? Some people have complained about the ring on the 85mm f.14 but I think it's fine.

Very inspiring what you've been doing recently.

No problem for me - the aperture ring is a little fiddly sometimes but nothing too difficult. It is a sharp lens for sure.

Well, I am little obsessed at the moment but I am sure I will calm down one day. When I have my blog up (called scenista.com) I hope you will stop by and contribute some wisdom.

It was made between 1973 and 1976 - haven't tracked the serial number yet.

Simon, Havent you heard of digital cameras? Or are you retro freaking? With red light bulbs and sniffing strange liquid chemicals? Having fun making black and white photos of elderly woman and rainy days...... te te te....

I like that photo.

And here you have something completely different and totally digital.

Sometimes, the old ways are best for certain things - you know that right?

If it's not a Leica and not film, you'll have to start your own thread. Ahh, I stink of fixer this evening, takes me way back.

I am not using a darkroom Anders. I am scanning developed negatives, much easier and no big bits of paper to store somewhere.

Ahhh, so you are only a semiretro freak.

How is it with quality now? Some 5 years ago, it was considered that you got the best quality photos by using develloped negatives and that special little negative scanner. I have a feeling that digital has improved quite a bit since then, but is it still behind?
